umm.. could it be that they are selling banned weapons to iraq as recently january .. or maybe that Ch-iraq has called Saddam 'my close personal friend'

Or maybe that they are not supporting the efforts to oust Saddam for purely monetary reasons.. while trying to act like they are just being moral - while they try and make a powergrab in the EU.. and did thier best to block NATO from coming to the defense of a fellow member nation ..

So lots of nations of sold other nations weapons that arnt friendly nations, including the US. So Whats the point of being so upity about the French. And who cares if hes friends with Saddam, Bush is prety close to Isrial and they arnt the nicest ppl in the world. I think everyone is just looking out for there best intrests. (Country wise)

But even b4 this whole Saddam, Iraq thing iv seen some Americans who dont like the French and i was just wondering why that is. In comedy acts they are always shown as being cowerdly, but i dont understand how they got that image. Maybe u could explain it to me i dont know too much bout the french, other than they know the high toll war can take.

I think the reason they are often portrayed as cowardly is because when they were attacked by the Nazi's during WW2 thier leadership basically chose to allow the Nazi's to take over rather than fight .. so long as the current leadership was able to maintain some of its political power..

As for the weapons sales.. France sold weapons to Iraq like 8 freaking weeks ago.. we arent talking about something that happened a long time ago here. .

Ok i agree with being upset over the weapons thing being that they are aert of the UN and all. But the WW2 thing.Plz

I find absolutly amazing that some can still use that as an excuse. In my opinion Hitler's Generals were the best at the time (for the most part) and they did an amazing job at troop placement and battle planes. Its not like France had much of a choice either, the Nazi war machine vs Farmers, hmmm lol wonder whos gonna win. But I still dont think its fair to give them trouble over that. And heres a good question Whats with the pple pouring out French wine. Woopty doo. U still have to buy it to dumpit out, so the ppl who made wont care cause the already got there money from it. Now if u were to stop buying the wine altogether that would have more of an effect wouldn't u say.

I think this whole Iraq thing is like Beehive and a boy with a stick. Now Iraq is the beehive and America is the boy with the stick. Of course if u hit the hive hard enough the nest will be destroyed, but all those little bees just disperse and then come after the little boy. Sure the nest may temperarily be gone but feels more hurt in the end the boy or the bees??

Hey i just read Flankers post about the Cdn snipers and was wondering how he new that? I saw it on TV, the history channel, a series called Canadians in Afgahanistan. They showed some really interesting stuff. Cdn snipers shootin long distance, how long u say, like 1.5km. They told some really cool stories. They were also directing airstrikes and mortor fire. If u ever see it televised again, watchit its really good. I taped most of it.

Another funny thing is a New Zealand special forces group that was there gatered up all kinds of ammo from ppl, and piled it up in an open spot, then when the left the told the ppl the there was satelites watching it and if any1 went near it there would be an airstrike called in lol. Two days l8er the Cdn demolition group showed up to destroy the ammo and no1 had touched it lol

One More Thing...

This is just being added to Raven's speil about France...during WW2, it's not like every last french person there surrendered, thousands were involved the underground resistance. They risked their lives as well pulling espionage and the like, protecting downed allied pilots that crashed over france.

Hey.. I didnt put that out there cuz its what I thought. .

I put it out there cuz Rave asked WHY..

Well thats one reason why.. its that simple. .

But come on.. they shouldnt have fought back?? they had an army.. LMAO. . you act like they didnt..

Thier leadership simply didnt give a hoot..

And a ton of French Jews and others were killed because of that decision by the French..

So I guess Britain shouldnt have fought back either.. or Canada.. or the US..

Whoo hoo.. with you guys in charge we could all be doing the goose step now I guess..

And as to pouring out the wine. . Its for symbolism..

And you can bet the people doing it HAVE stopped buying french wine .. if you dont get that.. then you need to take another look at the world. .

The nest of bees thing is a good analogy by the way.. the only thing is.. you forgot to mention.. is that a kid with a stick attacking a nest of bees is foolhardy.. however.. when an exterminator with the proper equipment goes after a nest of bees.. the nest is destroyed.. and most of the bees dont get away..

Additionally after the fact those bees tend to end up dieing off because thier queen is dead - and without the structure and the power at the top the those bees die off..

In this situation .. the exterminator will be the US - and the queen would be Saddam - with Saddam deposed.. thier will be no quess to direct the actions of the hive. .and the rotten structure of it all will fall apart..

Besides.. do you think we dont face terrorism already.. what do you think the motivation was for 9/11? they dont need more justification to attackk all experts say they will anyhow..

They will most likely attack us.. and will most likely cause some temporary damage.. of that thier can be no doubt..

However.. in the long term.. we will persevere - after all this is a war we are tlaking about.. and in a war there are casualties. . usually on both sides. .

If we get attacked then so be it.. however I think you should note that when we attack them we will be attacking thier military and govrnment however the attacks they are likely to perpetrate on us would be against our private citizens..

That alone justifies our NEED to remove Saddam from power..

I would like to know exactly what u think bout the impending war with Iraq ABullet, and what u think wil happen afterwards. Ur a smart guy i can tell. U see things differently then i do and new opinions are a learning opertunity. U know a lot about war, as do i, more than any1 would guess. Just cause im a teenager and Cdn pple tend to think im just act like i know it all, and im always right. Actually im far from a normal teenager. I know all kinds of things, some scary some not, some godd some bad.

And 4 all u guys who think im sucking up IM NOT!

As for the whole Goose stomping thing, I think that was a bit uncalled for, im more cool headed then Shadow and know that u feel strongly on these topics. But no country should be looked down on for fighting a war they didnt want to happen.

LMAO.. sorry if I offended you Shadowfax..

My point was simply that you guys implied that the French would have lost anyways so fighting was somehow not worth it. .

In my opinion thats a policy that if it had been taken by the other countries that had to fight a losing battle against the Nazi's - would have led to an Allied loss in world war 2.. I wasnt trying to imply that thats a solution any of us would have wanted. . What I was trying to highlight. .is that sometimes fighting a losing battle is still better than the alternative..

The Germans took France in a matter of days. . that led to a large number of French Jews and others being captured and sent off to concentration camps. .

Had the French fought back .. many would have died in the battles against the Germans.. but many civilians could have fled to safety. .

Basically .. there was and is no excuse for the French leadership and the decisions they made.. and to say there was is pretty offensive to me. .

They shied away from a fight to save thier own butts.. to me. . that cost far more lives in the long run.. and I beleive thats why a majority of Americans see the French as cowardly. .

there was a show on last night (i didnt se it, my dad did) and he high lighted some of the points. It was about France Germany and Iraq.

Turns out the leader of France has been a close friend to Saddam way more then any of us know. Since back in the 70's. He was powerful then too in the french gov't and was selling anything to Sddam wanted to him for any price he wasnted to sell it at. He actually sold Saddam a nucular reactor capable of producing weapons grade materials. Then israel bomed it once, but it has been rebuilt since. And Germany set up pesticide producing plants that actually made nerver agents.

So this selling of missels to Saddam by the French is mearly the tip of the iceburg.

I agree that was is the only way to get rid of Saddam, but if there is war in Iraq its just gonna fuel terrorists anger, and #'s. There is more to this war then Iraq.

France and Russia say it will Veto the UN's vote. If America goes to War without the UN approval, its basically criminal from an internation view point.

The more i see the more i realize thias war will happen, and soon. The US doesnt reall care about the UN vote. If it has it great but if it doesnt oh well. In the Toronto Star i believe it was, says US isnt as support as they would have u think.

I hope the US gov't actually realizes what they are doing, and what will happen afterwards.

isnt it "la" not "le"...
who cares, but any way
i agree the goose step part was over the line a tad.
and as far as me and my friends are concerned its not the french people that we hate it is the government because they are being stuborn on something that they know that they cant stop. the US will go to war with iraq. the only reason we're going through the UN is for political reasons we dont need the help as we can do it all by ourselfs but as always its always better to have some one else helping. and not to mention everyone knows for a fact that sadam will not dissarm hell just hide everything again. and when the threat of war is gone hell kick out the UN inspectors and then he wont follow the prevous UN resolution yet again. its already been proven that he has broken the UN resolution and he did this all right under the UNs nose and he got away with it until the US got on the UN's and sadam's back and then they finaly got to work but even now they arent doing a good enough job. they are to poorly equiped to do a good job. if france and germany want the inspections to continue the least they could do is give the UN inspetors some equipment and sent more inspectors. cuz god knows there isnt anywhere near enough of them there

Did u know that the earlier Inspectors that went to Iraq were chosen by there individual gov'ts b4 the threat of war was waved around. Now the UN has only chosen the best to go. Just something to think about.

The M.O.A.B. that the US tested in Florida is also another intersting topic. Its payload is a special formula that explodes differently then conventional bombs. Its built to blow up, bigger and hotter as well as burn longer. The expert said that he thinks the test in Florida was to see what size a maximum blast area would be, so it was detonated above the ground. But he beleives that when in operational use it will be set to detonate partially or totally submergered in the ground. He beleives its a "bunker buster" type bomb. Wi th the intention of attacking underground bunkers containing chemical or biological weapons. The MOAB is also GPS guided and has movable tail fins to guid it right on target with pin point acuracy. Now one may think who needs accuracy with a 21 000 lb bomb?, but if ur targets underground and toxic, then the closer, the better.

At the end of the Gulf War the US used several GBU-28's to destroy Iraqi command centres underground, the next day Iraq gave up. The expert alos thinks that the test was a message saying

"You think last time was bad, wait till u see what we have for you know!"

Size wise the MOAB is ONE HELL of a lot bigger.
Heres a pic of how the GBU-28 works

yea that is a sweet looking bomb. whatched one explode on tv tonight, can you imagine soldiers seeing that ? machine guns or not i think they will be headed away from the area. if we have to "do it" it may be so easy that is laughable....time will tell.

what i think much of the world keeps missing is that "we" feel severely threatened. the usa is not going to be passive when the heartland is threatened,
and none of the countries who loudly voice opposition to war are volunteering to protect us..(.scary thought ehhh? being protected by the french and russians ?) the un is not able to do anything for us, so what can we do?
i see mention of ties between chirac ans sadass , and i hear additional things but hard to find proof....which is what the inspectors should realise.....if iraq was seriously disarming the inspectors would be overwhelmed with stuff being delivered to thier door. instead they hunt here and there hoping to stumble on something else. i read once of a journalist who interviewed sadass, he said when he went in the elevator down his ears poped...have the inspectors been there ? i do not know .
the un is failing us and i am afraid the short term effect on international relations will suffer greatly because of it.

as far as that french soldier thing goes, american soldiers have a tradition of being willing to fight against great odds and wining (as others do also) so we respect that in others. and do not repect people who will not try to defend themselves....much of the french resistance were civilians.

I was looking back at some earlier posts about France in WWII and if i remember correctly, Hitlers panzer divisions swept threw france in 6 days.

That was some great strategic planing on the Nazi's part.

a guy that lives in France

I've been following this thread for a while now, and now that all the personal abuse between you guys is over, would just like to point out, that most of the people in France are actually 'FOR' the actions to be taken against Saddam. 'War' that is.

As for the anti french actions undertaken by people in other nations, well, I feel it's a bit childish ! Again we see the efficiency of propoganda, and this unfortunatly, we're all victims of.

Thats all I have to say about the subject, and will probably not reply again, as I too can, if forced, slander people that I've never met, but respect for what they do to help a community, even as little as the df community.
