I key Briefing

OK I have been searching the forums and found quite a few posts that have this mentioned but Im not sure Ive found the answer yet (Although I have found many answers to other Qs already).

I want the Briefing that shows up when you press 'I' in game. Now I see theres lots of talk about bin files but Im getting confused between what can be seen by other players if they dont have the map downloaded too. Is there a way for me to add the Briefing without messing with the bin file, so that everyone can see it without having the map downloaded on their system?

The map is CoOp using XMED for AW
Cheers, PoB

You can use the standard default bin file, and edit that..

It can be extracted from the game..

NOT Transmitted

Waypoint names, win/lose conditions, win/lose messages are NOT transfered over the net, and should be left "As Is"..

ARE Transmitted

Named Locations, PeopleNames, AI names, and Briefing2 DO work over the net if you do NOT have the bin file.

Briefing2 is the one that shows up when you press the I key.

Here is a default bin you can use for the AW mod...copy and paste it into a text file, then, use the bin tools form the download section to convert it to a bin file.

You MUST name it the same as you bms file.. ie.. game.bms, game.bin

Or download it form here..

OK Thanx for that answer EE, it took a while to sink in but I think I understand it now.

However, before I read this I thought Id have a play with the bin file after downloading the tutorial and bin tools. I didnt quite understand it so I just experimented with it by copy/paste only a SMALL PORTION of it into notepad to see what happens and I got the result I was looking for, ie the I briefing showed up AND the G keys win conditions showed up and worked, both online for the clients.

Now after reading your post I see that I did it WRONG, so why did it work and what unexpected trouble can I expect to see because of this? Also, you say that the win/lose conditions are NOT transmitted yet they were on mine? The players told me when they pressed G they saw Win Conditions that ticked at the appropriate time and when they pressed I they got the full Briefing I had written. This is after all, exactly what I was looking for. I hope Im not being too simple here.
Cheers, PoB

Any custom win conditions are NOT transmitted, you can use the default ones that show up in your Med, and they WILL be seen by others, but, if you alter one, then the other players will see the default one, not your custom one.

So, if you didn't change any default win conditions, then you didn't do it wrong at all..
