So, you can join the 'lobby rooms', just not public?

right, into lobby where u can choose: nova games, public and password games , no problem. Then log into public, lobby, no problem. Choosing room, the error occurs. Have to restart machine with ctrl/alt/del .

Is there an 'error' message? (if so post it) . Also, there is a post a few down from this one, related to a particular type of 'audio card' (its about 4 pages long, but take a few and read it, it may be the culperate), it seemed to effect a few peeps w/ a 'real-tek' audio card. If neither apply, try a 're-install' and game update. (use the last update in our d/loads section, for df2, its more reliable then the one that the game uses.)

Please Help Me!!!!!!!!!!!

I need help hosting a server I know everyone asks questions about this all the time but mine might be a little different. I recently got a high sped internet connection and sense then I haven’t been able to host a server anymore witch doesn’t make any sense because I was able to host a server before with dial up. Now I cant get into my own server and neither can any of my friends its really Annoying. I have tried disabling all of my firewalls and any type of protection on my computer. I do not understand any of this port address stuff talked about at all on here. I am not computer illiterate I fix my own computer and all of them for the family and I still cannot figure this problem out I’ve been trying to fix this for over a month now im about to give up on this ******* game for good even though I love this game.

Please help

Need to know what game? different games have different port openings for them to run correctly. Also, if your using a router, it will need to be set correctly to allow 'hosting'.

I have posted the fix for DF2 in several different locations -- just need to do a search but here it is again - Maybe Admin needs to do a sticky:

The fix: Go to Control Panel - Sound - Audio - Advanced - Performance - then turn Hardware Acceleration down all the way to the left..
