Following received by u2u from jonagent:

I got the newest df game Delta Force Extreme, Its my favorite now but the map editor has a annoying problem. When I activate an area trigger in the game from a map I made it closes the program and sends me to the desk top. If you know what im doing wrong could you please tell me?

If anyone else has experienced this problem or has any ideas, feel free to leave a response.

Just a few suggestions.

1. Check that you don't have an "extra" marker for the trigger area. You only need 2 to form the trigger area. You might have to select each area trigger in the MED and move it slightly to see if you have an extra one underneath it. You can also select one of the markers, right click, and select all of this trigger area. Then pan around your map to see if there's an extra marker.

2. Are you working from the MED, saving, and then testing your mission in DFX? I'm not sure about others, but I seem to run into problems with leaving the MED up while trying to play the mission in DFx. Trying closing the MED.

3. For Area Trigges, there's a check box labeled 3D Volume Trigger. As far as I can tell from the manual, its not supported.

4. What kind of mission are you trying to make: Single, coop, TDM,...? If you are doing a non-single player mission, you shouldn't use SSNarea(10000,X) as a check. See page 33 of manual.

5. If all else fails, make a brand new map and insert just the trigger area and the Event that you want to go with it. Save and then test. I've had a couple of my MIS files go bad on me. Once because I exceeded max # of people. I went back and reduced the # of people, but it was too late. Good thing I had a prior version of my MIS file that I could revert to.

Jonagent, you only need "two" area trigger markers to define an area. If you need a 3D area trigger, then you only need to raise the height (Z-value) of one of the markers.

Check page 24 of the MED manual. It provides step by step instructions on how to create a trigger area.

Try this as a quick test. Open a new map in the MED. Insert 2 area trigger markers and 1 object (like a person). Define the area trigger per MED manual. Next make sure to place the object inside the area. Now select just 1 of the area trigger markers. Bring up the properties for this marker and change the Z value to something like 4.

Select the two markers and the one object and click on the 3D view. You should see that the trigger area is now a 3D volume around the object.

If you need to see an example of this, download "OpBetty" single player mission from the DFx map database. I included the MIS file. This mission used trigger areas several times.

hope this helps.

Also ensure you identify the area trigger marker as a 3d marker in the Item attributes.
