Area Triggers, Why doesn't it work?


I'm trying to set up a simple area trigger.

I have my player spawn point set to group 3.
I have a transport target set to group 5, with a guy also set to group 5.

Area trigger is not set to a group.

My event is:

if group 3 is in area 1
then
transport group 5 to transport 1

(roughly speaking, forget the exact wording).

I try the game. I walk to the area trigger, and nothing happens.

I have tried setting the area trigger group to the same group as the spawn point.

Why?

do you mean teleport target?

also what DFLWMED version are you using?

i use consumer 2001 i couldnt get any teleport trigger to work with the start player marker

theres nothing wrong with your logic its probably the med try a different med or trigger by different event

example:

if group 4 dead teleport group 5 to teleport target 1

Oops... Yes I meant the teleport target.

Also, I'm using the same version of MED, I'll try another one and see if it works.

I'll let you know if it does.

I tried using different MED's. Not even the original one that comes with the game worked. Maybe I have something goofed up with the groups.

I'll keep on trying.

I can't see why you have the spawn point in a group?!

What exactly are you trying to do..you might need a better explaination..

hehe EE this is DFLW you dont have the luxury to use an SSN in an event as you do in BHD

im working on a map with a BIO hazard case and if any red players are carring it and are outside area the case teleports back to its original place but it wont work

if i cant get this to work ill use kill group if carring case and outside area

Yeah Mate, I know that, I mapped for DFLW and Dagger before I got BHD..LOL..

I just can't see what he's tryng to achieve..there's not enough info here!!

What more info do you need Eagle_Eye?

I just want to teleport some bg's in when a multiplayer steps into my area trigger.

If I don't have the respawn in a group, then how will my event get fired? I won't know what group the player is.

I just did 1 map where the start, death match respawn point is set to group 3.

When a player picks up a case, some guys get teleported in. In my limited knowledge of map making, I don't think I could have done that if I didn't assign a group to the respawn points.

But, all this is besides the point now, Still havent been able to get area triggers to work :o.

Have to resort to objects being destroyed (every one seems to like blowing up a barrel, do that on my map and you will face 4 guys ;)) to launch the trigger.

I still can't see why the spawn point is a group..you can't teleport a spawn point, therefore you must have the spawn point inside the area trigger to make the event work..which means the event will trigger straight away..!!!?? or am I just babbling..lol

The Player is always group 1, so just set up the event as group1 in area trigger.

Event 0: Teleport 1

Group 1 is within area 1

Actions:

Teleport group 3 to target 3


I tried this in a coop, and a DTM, I didn't go in as red team, cos the mrs is using here pc, and I can't go in as a red player when I host, so I need to join on here pc..

I'm pretty sure the red team human players..not the AI, are also recognised as group 1..

ie..all human players will be group 1, always..you can't change that.

This event will trigger the teleport if the biocase is picked up, biocase is set to group 5

Event 2: Biocase trigger

Group 1 holds group 5
Actions:

Teleport group 3 to target 3

I'm not trying to teleport spawn points.

But, since reading your last post Eagle_Eye, Area triggers work!

I didn't know that all players are group 1.
Now that the area triggers work, is it possible to just kill the player that triggered it?

I'm thinking of some thing like an off-limits area where the trigger keeps reseting. The person who goes there would die and the trigger would reset to catch the next person.

If everyone is in group 1, then an event to kill group one would kill every one right?

Your better off with a booby trap type setup, if you really must do this..

You can use a series of area triggers, that set off the traps, but, they won't reset, once the barrel, or whatever is blown, that's it..how about a long fence to keep them in..lol..

It's a limited thing in DFLW..there's not a lot you can do to stop players going outside the boundary.. I have a Lan, but I never tried doing this myself..I never had the time to test it..

So, what game are you doing..TDM?

I'm having a lan night sat night, maybe I''l do up a few test maps, and we'll run them, just to see who "Does" die in you kill group1

My maps are usually dm/tdm. I did one that could be dm/tdm/tkoth.

i forgot about the spawns always being in group 1or2 reguardless of what group u think u put them in. stupid DFLW :( lol

red spawns are group 2
