terrains.pff

i cant get the edited files into the Terrains.PFF ..the pack_it program is putting them into the Df2.PFF instead of the Terrains.PFF .and maybe im not writing the batch file correctly .i renamed the edited files DFG4ed.TRN and DFG4ed_d.PCX .the editor seems to be finding the edited TRN in the df2 directory and listing it in the choose terrain area of the general information it also loads the picture of the map but not the depth and height maps, they are blank. any suggestions? thx highly ...
i used the fwo pff utility to extract the files.the only ones i edited were the dfg4.trn and dfg4_d.pcx ,also i extractred all of the dfg4 files but i think these are just copies and the dfg4 files seem to be o.k. .lastly i opened the PCX file in an imaging program(kodak i guess) that came with the computer then saved as .BMP then opened it in the paint program (also came on computer)edited it using the pick color and pencil tools then saved it then opened it again in the imaging program ,then saved it as a PCX i hope this doesnt all sound stupid really its a shot in the dark and JUS4FUN

Hmm, it shouldn't matter if the files are in the TERRAINS.pff or in the DF2.PFF, but I'm not 100% sure if all terrain files for one specific terrain should be in one of them, or if it's ok that they're spread out in both of them...

Anyway, we (TAG) put our TXP terrain files in the DF2.PFF file for a reason... (which I can't remember right now, lol... I believe it was a pretty good reason, though, lol..., but not critical...)

OK, make sure your terrain file names are spelled EXACTLY the same way as you've described them inside that .TRN file.... I would guess that's the reason for your problems...

If not, you might have saved your new/edited terrain files in the wrong format... i.e. make sure you save it with the same resolution and number of colors and such as the original... Check your tutorials once again, or also check the specific format of the original terrain files inside your favorite image editor...

thx again q dad , i considered what you said in the reply and went searching for more tools. i got lucky and found a program called XNVIEW VIEWER . it converted
the file from 1024x1024 8 bit 256 colours .PCX to a .BMP then i was able to EASILY edit it in the paint shop using pick color and pencil.opened it again with xnview viewer and converted it back to 1024x1024 8 bit .PCX .it even told me it was 1024x1024 8 bit 256 colours in the beginning. then opened fwo pff utility and VERY SIMPLY dragged and dropped the files into the pff utility window (heres to RAVEN)the .TRN and and elevation(_D).PCX were all i used .im AMAZED. thx very much
for your help this is gonna be fun. ps after the previous post i saved all the files i wanted from the df2 directory then reinstalled the game:D:D:D:D:D
