TIP fog color settings made easy
ever make a map and wanted to change the sky color only to be discouraged because you couldnt get the color you where wanting. you can get the
settings needed for the sky color you want in just a few steps
1. open paint(start,programs,accessories,paint)
2. click colors on the task bar
3. click edit colors
4. click on an box under custom colors
5. click on define custom colors
6. slide tint scale to desired tint middle of scale is a good place(far right)
7. left click and drag cursor in color box untill desired color is found release mouse button
8. write the number down in the RED GREEN BLUE boxes
9. check the fog color box then place these numbers in the RED GREEN BLUE boxes in your dflwmed
now your map will have the desired sky color settings you have been looking for
this works in winME with dflw, dfbhd ,and probably dftfd
if your run into a 5 diget number multiply or divide by 256 to get the correct 3 or 5 diget number(some editors and/or paint may use 5 diget numbers,
although highly unlikly)

just click on the colour you want and the numbers apear.

read other link
yes ive used programs like it in the past theres even websites with color wheels on them and ive used that fog color tool but if you read the other
link you will understand why i use it. and once u get use to using it it takes longer to load paint than it does to find a color
if you have tried the step i layed out you would realize the code was taken from paint or using paint and the only difference between them is in paint
it takes 2 more mouse clicks to get to the same thing but you have more options .
you would realize this if you would just
click on the link in my second post on this thread and try it instead of thinking the tool is the best option
can you get a sky color setting from a map you have played on a server using that tool????? NO
but u can using paint
the only way i would think it would be superior(in 1 way antway) to paint is if it put the color in the MED for you

to take a colour from a previous screen shot paint is the best option..
but for picking a colour nice n fast then why bother loading up a paint program using up extensive amounts of ram
"psp and other progs"
which will cause slow down espeshialy if you have the med and the game open at same time.
Wich may i add most decent map makers do,
I my self would only use paint if i wanted The Exact same colour as i had seen previously and had taken a screen shot of it.
Wich end of the day isnt very realistic.
With terrain and map making I tend to just use my colour picker as its much faster less ram used and alows more programs to be ran without slow down.
opening paint shop pro or any other decent paint program.
then runing the map editor.
and opening the game will caus more slow down than its worth.
its up to you how you chose to pick these colours.
But you could at least let people know about the flip side of the coin.

Last post in this topic for me.
in this subject there are 2 choices.
1st is follow the long instructions 1st posted in this topic.
2. download the fog colour picker
click on the colour you want and paste the numbers it pops up.
you decide which is easiest fastest and most logical.

yes its just a choice.
i perfer paint/paintshop pro and if you follow the instructions after about 3-4 times you would get it and wouldnt need to read them again.
it took me 8-10 seconds to get to the color picker in paint with out a short cut. once you know where its at it doesnt take long
it took me 12-15 seconds to get to the color picker i DLed with out a short cut.
thats harder to find than paint without a shortcut
as far as using up resourses ive never had the problem of it slowing anything down unless icq the game and the med is running at the same time but icq
and/or DFLWmed is a resourse hog when used at the same time for some reason.
but i just use it for sky color i can see if used for terrain colors if you make terrains you would need to use it more often and the color picker
would be the better option since terrains often have several shades of the same color(s)
is there any other way than to have med and game open at the same time?
lol wouldnt make sence to shut down DFLWmed and/or game while making a map after every change
you have let them know about the "flipside of the coin" as has others i was just putting in this option which didnt exsist at the time to show the
first overlooked "flipside of the coin"
another thing i already have enough MED/game shortcuts/tools to keep track of and something im only gonna use 1 or 2 times/map maybe a total time of 1
min just doesnt seem enought to justify DLing and using it
seems redundant DLing and using a program to use a program u already have on your system
however as ive said before i can understand this if making terrains the color picker would be a better option

I dont suppose that this is the way you can create an interesting sandstorm fog on a desert map, cos that would actually be prett cool. Cos I just saw
the map 'Afghani Oasis' and the fog was just like a sandstorm (yes, I have been in a REAL one).
thanks.

those fog tips were really handy. I managed to make myself a really good sand storm effect in my Baghdad mission. You start off on guard at a US ammo
dump. it is heavily defended, but a SANDSTORM has made spotting things ddifficult. Next thing you know, a truck filled with explosives comes out of
nowhere and slams into the ammo dump (2 Indo2 buildings and concrete tower) everything arond thses blow up. Then a terrorist ambush comes in and your
the last one left, kill he bgs and run for the second HQ across the city. But hundreds of bgs block the way (its a BIG fight) and the sand storm
effect makes me feel like im there. Thanks for the help with the fog!

I really wish i could send a link, but i havent got the internet (I go to the barracks when at school or at a friends), but until I get the internet,
look out for 'terrorist attack (fog)2'. sorry for any disapointment. Ill have to nag my dad for the internet. But, is there anyway to get the mission
onto a CD disc and then put it into a friends computer, therefore I could send it to the barracks? That would be good. And it can be done quiet soon.

back from weekend
well, I spose it can be done, unless it is achieved within 2 weeks. I leave for Broken Hill on the 11th or something, so if I cant get this done, then
theres some problems. I have to get some games of my friend anyway so Ill try.
My computers stuffing up too, its not turning on and making an irritating noise, but i can try. If not then im afraid there will be some waiting time
to be one.
Ive made some more maps that trail after this one too, but until the pc starts working...

I made the Fog Color Picker for DF2 - why you hating on it?? Lol jk
I've been playing and making maps for JOTR since 2003 ish, after DF2
If anyone has any questions about my mini software that's easier than using MS Paint let me know at crazybastardnetwork@gmail.com lol
I'm sure ppl are saying the same about JO, but I hope no one is still making maps for DF2, I know some still play it though, I try to get it working
and get in about once every year or so, however the Fog Color Picker is still a cool tool for on the fly color code... the new MED for JOTR (NILE) has
a built in color picker, but still a cool tool (biased) ;D
