OK Pro's..... Answer this please!

Hey all....
Fianlly giving in and building new PC so I can play a more enjoyable game.
Here is what I am building...

Asus Mother Board
350w PS
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 333mhz
512mb DDR memory
80 gig HD
52X CDROM
nVidia Ti4200 128mb 8X card
SoundBlaster Live

Now the question..... The case has a cooling fan in the back and one in the side. Will this be enough cooling power for the processor AND the graphics card?

Also, I really like Win2000 Pro (on my current machine) and I have had some here tell me that the newest games play like crap on anything but WinXP.... I really don't like XP, so will BHD and MOHAA play good on this system with Win2000? I have cable internet also.....

Thanks!

i think you could be happy with winXP if you tweak it a lil...also AMD makes good processors tin which they say in performance its just as good as P3 and some P4 but when it come to gameplay i would say go for an intel cause amd doesnt have as good of a clock speed also you can never have enouph ram ( but all this is only if you can afford it (also if you want a discount on a motherboard intel compatable talk to Loki he selling one not even open... dont know if it will fit your case or with money u save you could buy another case ( dont know how much hes asking but im sure its below actuall price if you dont know Loki he a sig maker for DFB

Forgot to mention that the board is capable of up to 3gb of memory (DDRAM). I have always been an intel guy, but all I read says that AMD rules when it comes to games and graphics..... Also, bought a used Athlon 733mhz machine for my wifes office and she has not had one crash on it. My PIII 933 is always crashing...... I am impressed with her AMD Athlon....

Keep the opinions coming please?!

My board is capable of running 2 Gig of RAM of which I have 1 Gig installed, but with todays gaming needs anything over 512 RAM is pretty much overkill.

However the games are getting more and more advanced so if you can afford it start out with a Gig which will serve you well until your motherboard is outdated anyway.

Im and intel Fan, but tat not my concern here, all this talk of extra cooling etc, and qne thing so often overlooked is powersupply, I dont figure how so many ppl want all the grunt, cooling, pretty cases with lights, and crap,
AND totally forget they have to have a good power supply to run it all.
I often wonder how may who post in forums with freeze, reboot , crash, and other probs have a 1hp briggs a stratton runing a kenworth truck
Min 350 watts these days m8

Well, going with this system...... I am disappointed in the help response here compared to over at BF1942 board. Got TONS of suggestions over there.
Here is what I am doing....

ASUS A7N8X Delux nForce Chipset (5PCI, 8XAGP, Sound, LAN Serial SRAID)
AMD Athlon XP2600+ (the board will go to 2800+)
WD 80 gig HD
512 mb Micron DDRam
nVidia GeForce4 Ti4200 128mb (can always upgrade)

I think I will be happy with this, especially since I have been playing with a PIII 933 for the last couple of years. The MB will allow me to upgrade to a 2800+ and has good overclocking ability.

Thanks to those that gave their opinions.... It did help me decide.

Ok, I have an Athlon 2000+, it came with a standard fan, and was placed on the M/B by the supplier. After I got it up and running, I installed the M/B monitor that it came with, 70c degrees it was running at, that shutdown point, so I put in a new fan, now it's sweet, 35c. So just be aware that it may run hot, so check it out asap.

I will watch it.... Is there any aftermarket temp gauges that you know of? I know it is coming with "an AMD approved heatsink/fan" but wonder if I should not have some extra insurance.... Not planning to overclock at this point, at least till I get some super cooling. I may have to look up that board and see if it has the temp-sensing ware....

Thanks Eagle!

See your other post Buzz, I left a response covering this. Just a note, unless you running Win XP, running more than 512 ram is gonna cause problems, cos only XP supports 512 meg or more. I had huge problems when I went back to ME for a short time, took me ages to figure out why eerything was screwedup, then I remembered, ME only supports up to 512m. I took out 256 meg, and everything OK.

Yeah, but you need to watch the current drain, or your pc will fall over, make sure they all not on the same power leg. I only got 1 running, and I live in Aus, damm hot here. CPU fan, anf chipset fan more important

Well yea...

Yea the Heat Sink is important...but it won't stop the hard drives, cd Roms and video cards from over heating...that's why the newer video cards have heat sinks

Yeah, but just about all new video cards have fans as well as huge heats sinks, and a lot of motherboards now have a fan on the agp chipset as well, mine does. You can get an extractor fan that fits into a 51/4 drive bay, I'd go for that instead of 5 fans!

ALSO!!!

Also, when your building a faster computer, make sure you get ram with a Copper HeatSink with it, to extend the life and performance of your ram...

Also...if you need CHEAP PRICES on your parts...ask me...I sell computer prices that will 95% of the time beat out any competitor...It's easy too...cause I go through PayPal...

Forgot something....

I was looking at your specs...

I saw two things that you may wish to consider...

1. Perhaps instead of an Asus motherboard, you should go with ECS...it's the top rated Generic Motherboard out there and lasts a LONG time...not only that...it has TONS of POSITIVE REVIEWS on their motherboards that support AMD 2000 up to 3200...i fully recommend them...plus it's a lot CHEAPER...by atleast $50. That way you can either upgrade so something better in your computer like a DVD Player...or just save it...

2. On the Sound Blaster...the best sound card that i've seen right now is the "Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer". If you buy it from me...it's $80.00 before shipping, so like...oh...$90.00 with shipping. It is so intence...i love it. If you want good sounds don't go with onboard sound. Funny, people think it works just fine, but if you are running a game like:

-Black Hawk Down
-Battlefield 1942
-Metal of Honor Allied Assault
-Command and Conquer Renegade

The sounds are intence, and if your using onboard sound and have the sound setting on high then more than likely your game will slow down in an intence battle and in online play because it will slow down the frame rate unless you turn down your sound settings...but if you have an INTENCE sound card like the "Audigy Gamer"...you can set the settings as high as you want and you won't have any problems...

Yea you'll find it for cheater online for like $75.00...but after Tax and Shipping it's over $100.00. I know cause when people place orders I have to charge them Tax...but if someone wants to buy something from the gaming community either from

I don't charge Tax...i see it like a service...the better your PC is...the better Gaming you can do...and more fun for me when we play... ;)

LOL even on the Motherboard and Processor... I can get anyone AMD 3000 Processor w/Motherboard 333mhz FSB PC2700/PC3200 DDR...with Artic Silver, Copper Shim and Volcano 9 Heat Sink for $425 right now...$570 if you want to include Windows XP Professional...lol you can't find a price cheaper than that...if you do tell me... :)

anyways enough with the sales pitch...lol...those are my two suggestions above... :)

Hey, Thanks!
I will keep you in mind. I always tend to buy online for the convenience (and price). Send me your URL if you have one, or let me know how I can order from you. As far as sound, for now I have been happy with my SoundBlaster Live! and my Microsoft digital surround. I will see how that does, and who knows maybe I will upgrade.
What do you think of Micron DDR ram? That is what I purchased for my new system. I also went with the asus a7n8 delulxe for the features and I got a good price on it too. I have used asus always and have been pleased with it.

Thanks again for all your help and suggestions!

The DDR Is decent...Dual Channel is better though. One thing you might want to invest in is getting a heat sleave for the memmory...preferably copper. keeps it cooler and keeps performance high.

That Asus is good...the only prob is that Asus is very picky with their RAM. You can't us any kind yea want...

As far as a URL...nope...don't got one of those for the BIZ...yet...will soon hopefully though. But you just tell me what you want as far as a part and I'll see what I can do...

Go to my post on Video Card Suggestions and see the PC i'm building...go towards the bottom to see the final specs on it...
