DSL vs. Cable gaming

We're thinking of upgrading our internet service to either cable or DSL and I'm wondering, DSL seems to be cheaper. But how do people like gaming on DSL? Is it the same as playing online with cable?

I would recommend Cable. Faster downloads and great for gaming. DSL is good but not that great. The only problem with my DSL is that I only average 70 k/sec compared to cable who average, what, 200k/sec?

If your looking for a cheap buy on high speed internet then go for DSL. Its better then 56k :D

Speeds will be similar on either.. This is the main difference.

Cable users are on a node with other cable users. Meaning.. you share your bandwidth with others (however you are all usually capped) where as dsl you are not. Usually you will get a higher upstream with DSL than cable (but this is not always the case), but cable is more widely available than dsl. So both are for the most part comperable.

On second thought.

2003-06-17 21:32:03 EST: 655 / 137
Your download speed : 655391 bps, or 655 kbps.
A 80 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 137244 bps, or 137 kbps.

The samething with the router! ugh :(

Your computer also has a lot to do with it. If I tried DSL on my old banged up Windows 95 (yes, it's still usable) I don't think it'll be downloading 1244kbs.

Your download speed : 36554 bps, or 36 kbps.

Your upload speed : 21369 bps, or 21 kbps.
Your connection hardly qualified as broadband, at least in that test

i would prefer the cable modem, but DSL can be just as good, but what company will you be getting DSL from? Qwest is crap, so don't get DSL from Qwest, If your going to get Cable, i would suggest you get that instead of DSL, it puts out 1.85mps, DSL is bad compared to that, Go with Cable, I found this decision out the hard way, Got DSL but it sucked, kept booting me off and wouldn't let me sign back on. Pissed me off, got Cable and no more problems.

It depends on which provider you get DSL from. I have DSL from Verizon and I don't have a single problem. Everytime I turn on the computer, my modem is already logged on. Plus with Verizon they change your IP adress to something real small, so if you wanna host it comes up in the first page.

I have SBC and as far as my connection goes.. I never get dropped .. however I upgraded to the SBC/Yahoo integration they offered ... and it was bunk ... dang software reset all the optimum settings and dumped my lil home network ... So i re-installed the old software(which works fine) however do to the "Upgrade" my acct info was changed and i needed to contact them to get that squared ... so there's a couple more things for yah to consider ... lol .... if yah ask me .. it's all a big fat scam on the way we the consumers get treated and the "limitations" the providers put on us ... but that's just one man's opinion ... ;) .. incidentally i average 1.2mbs down and a mere 134 kbs up
