Tunnels

I know how to make tunnels in LW and TFD when the terrain is relatively flat. But, when it comes to hills and undulating terrain, not so good. Tunnel sections do not line up exactly.

Any tips?

J

I don't have any experience with DFLW, so I didn't feel qualified to reply... but:

In DFBHD, all tunnel sections line up automatically when you set the grid to 1m and activate the snap checkbox. That settles the X and Y axes.

On uneven terrain, you're best served by activating the Absolute Mode checkbox and manually setting Z values in the Item Attributes. 3D wireframe view is also helpful.

Please note that rotating a group of tunnel items will screw up the Z values, so if you need to do that, check the Z values after.

I don't know if this is of any use for DFLW mapping, though, but I have my fingers crossed for you!

Many thanks for replying. I was beginning to think I had been forgotten... lol

All my tunnels, when used on flat areas, are built with snap at 1m. "Flat" tunnels I can do without problem. I mainly use LW and TFD and I'm pretty sure that there are no wireframe views in the Editor... that would be SO cool... Not had too much experience with the "Z" axis, apart from paratroopers and placing stuff in tunnels, but I am willing to give a bash...

My system is low on caffeine and sleep and will have to check it out tomorrow.

Again. Thank you for replying. Much appreciated..

J

UPDATE:

Did as you suggested and used the "absolute" Z field on the editor. Tested a simple tunnel under gentle slopes and under a huge hill. Both worked like a charm. Many thanks for the assist... J
