Spamming the DFB map submission section.

Recently I noticed a number of people are submitting loads of non COOP maps at one time. Maps that players or users hardly download compared to COOPS. They are using up the space cleared for the good COOP maps. I think some are becoming pretty greedy HOGS. I think DFB should put a limit on the number of non COOP maps submitted by one individual in one day and within a week. Something like 1 in a day 3 per week total. I would also put limit on Coops submitted as well. Give others a chance to submit COOP maps before some people use up all the space with easy to make junk non COOP maps.

No Limits!

DFB is a resource for all map types. If you prefer seeing a certain kind of map then there is the advanced map search to filter out the types you dont like.

Not what I am talking about!

I know about the search buttons. I am not sure either of you understood me? I thinking to be fair to other mappers so that your server does not get full again one should not submit 3 to 5 maps at one go. Same as like submitting 15 or more maps within 5 days. I remember the many times I tried to submit maps and the server was full. Dang I could not get my Christmas Coop map on for Christmas! How about some common courtesy and not submit so many maps at one time. So I am thinking if some not so courteous then DFB may need some extra rules. I am not saying people should not be able to submit maps because of type. You should concider though which type maps people prefer more. When you have 700-2000 downloads on avg for coops and less than 200 downloads avg of other type maps you should concider a daily limit for submission of non coops.:o Maybe there are other solutions. Expand DFB data base which is best, or delete maps rated lower than 5 by players.

We cannot and will not delete maps rated below a 5 by players. Some player ratings tend to be biased... a few people have come and rated some of my maps 1/10 for no reason. Basically, from what I understand, you are saying we should be prejudice against non-cooperative maps because cooperative maps get more downloads? That will be the case in most any section of the MapDB; single player/cooperative maps get more downloads. That in no way means that there should be a limit on other maps being submitted. That is pretty much like saying that only five BHD deathmatch maps can be submitted per week because I don't like deathmatch and don't player it. There is sort of a rule (more common courtesy) that you should only submit one map per day to get others a chance on the front page. The issue with the server being full has been fixed. We ran out of space, went through and cleared out hundreds of maps, and also got more space added to the server. Plus, I've made a TDM map for JO:TR that took way longer than almost every cooperative map you will find, and has more technology put into it then cooperative maps...

I know exactly what you're talking about, and as I said, it has been discuss before. Many people were throwing around the idea of limits on submissions, but it was decided that such limits would not be made. As for demand, What game are we talking about? I'm looking at BHD pinger and there are only 6 coop servers between both BHD and TS. I love coop, but it doesn't seem to be a hot topic

Some type of Joint Operations... probably 1/3 of the servers are cooperative... all the other game types tend to lag...

First of all I prefer COOP and I must tell everyone that our Christmas map took us over 4 months to create and I mean working on it all the time not now and then we put a lot of work into that map. Our maps are not plop and drop maps we take the time to put a lot of great things and ideas into our maps. Dawg is very creative and Amp is great at events and problem fixing, I find it hard to believe that it took longer to make a TDM then it does a COOP! Granted I am new to mapping maybe my work and the others work seems like a long time??? Maybe I'm wrong???? Who knows!!! And i must agree that I think some people upload to many maps in a short amount of time, save some room for other mappers! Thank you!;)

This map took me about a year to make, Operation Quake. Mostly due to all the random events, waypoint paths, and getting the AI to work correctly. There have been other TDM maps that have taken me around 4 months to make.

I understood you fully, but DFB does not have any preference or weighting for any map type. It's only your opinion that TDM has less value than co-op, but the reality is they are both just maps and their type is not an indication of quality or value.

As to upload limits, there is already a guideline specified for only one map submission in any 24 hour period.

The issue with the full database was not due to map spamming but simply due to limited server space which has now been resolved. Map submissions are no longer at the volume they were so available server space should not be a problem for a very, very long time.

That should put your mind at rest...

Ok Cool my mind is at ease.

Ok sounds like the problem is being sorted. :D Yes everyone should be able to showcase their maps no matter what type it is. I suggest map makers should not hold on to their maps and submit the whole slew of maps in one go. Feed them to us a bit at a time. Hopefully DFB will not run out of space for maps again.:D
