I see what you mean (I clicked link too) but most forums let you read most of the posts without registering, only insisting on registration if you
wish to post.

The reason our forums are like that is because it has been getting spammed with [Censored].

then you need to re-work your permissions and learn how to use them effectively.... it is a very powerful system when done correctly
You can set it up so that guest can browse but not post.
That way people can browse what has been posted, see what is going on, etc.
There are a lot of people like me who once they find out they have to register just to read will instead just leave and never return.
DFB is an example - you can read all you want, but if you want to post you have to register (at least in this sub-forum).
if it is being done by bots, then make sure to enable the copcha - it requires users to enter in a string of letters/numbers on registration, which
will keep the bots out.

Surely the forums wouldn't prevent someone from joining the league. Besides, I've tried different permissions variations and the one that is set
works the best. This post is about a league though. Not about how to effectively use forum permissions.

lol - some one like me won't join the league if we can't see what it is about first.
We can't see what it is about first if we can't read the forum.
And I know there are others like me who turn away from sites that lock the visitors from reading...
So I'm just trying to help you get more exposure to your site
I have used platinum in the past - the permission system is powerful - simply going into the permission section and setting "Guests" permissions
accordingly will enable guests to browse the forum, yet keep them from posting. (go into advanced view for more control - you can control just about
every thing a guest can do)
But its up to you.. your site. Just trying to help you make it more inviting to potential members.
Good luck with it though.

You can see what it is about first. You just have to register. I prefer for you to ask about the rules then to post your opinion about how I should
permission out my fourm.
These rules are not subject to negotiation. Any violation will result in eviction from league or disciplinary action.
1) No cheating!
2) All squads must be a member of the Anti-Chat Alliance (ACA). Link to join is on the home page.
3) All reports of cheating or glitching MUST be supported with a screenshot or some other proof. If no proof is provided then as far as the league is
concerned, it never happend. This is to cut down on whinning.
4) Only BHD TDM stock maps are to be used.
5) Match winner will have won three out of five maps
6) Map winner will be 150 kills or most amount of kills after a 20 minute map time.
7) Base and PSP respawn time is 10 seconds
All weapons allowed unless agreed on by BOTH squads. If only one squad wants to omit a weapon then all weapons will be used.
9) Left lean glitch: Is allowed unless agreed on by both squads to omit it.
10) All teams will be either 8v8 or 6v6. To be agreed on by both squads.
11) No match renegotiations at the time of the match unless it agreed on by both squads to discuss.
12) To reschedule a match, you must give a 24 hours notice. Only one reschedule allowed per match. Two reschedules will result in a forfit.
13) Squad "no shows" for matchs will count as a forfit.
14) No mercs. All members participating in matches must be listed on all squad rosters.
15) Other league rules may vary slightly depending on how many squads we have.
16) Squads must supply us with a 468X60 pixel banner of your squad.
17) All squads must have the league banner on their home page with a link back here.
