free terrain hightmap editor

FOR DF2 TERRAIN
check out the Daylon graphics leveller demo you can easily create a custom hightmap(_D.pcx) . the demo will create a 64x64 map but you can resize it . I resize mine with the Xnview viewer which wil also convert the file formats . Youll need to enlarge your 64x64 to 1024x1024 then make a 3x3 version with this map . It will
then be 3072X3072 . You then blur it sufficiently to create the smooth edges
and crop out a 1024X1024 map . With the leveller you can also apply a texture which can be your color map and you can sculpt around the color map . but going from 64x64 does cost a lot of detail but its fun:D these are free programs but youll need something like paint to create your color map(_c.jpg) and detail map(_M.pcx) if you use xnview to convert from bitmap to pcx you might need to make sure that rle compression is checked in the write options
