As far as I know mine is integrated. Also I have no slots left since my orig. vid card was also integrated. So unless Nova comes up with a patch then looks like I'm stuck. Ive tried my tech support at Sony from the beginning and they didnt even get this far....So thats how much they know lol.

I just got done doing a set-up using an ASUS P5WD2 motherboard with an integrated RealTek HD chip. I had the same problem described here and after countless hours of trying different configurations with the video card, IRQ's, etc., I was dumbfounded when I read everyone else having the same problem with a common thread back to the RealTek sound adapter. I killed the sound card and got the same results, everything worked fine, including sound from the USB headset. I went to RealTek and downloaded the most recent drivers that were uploaded 10/21/05, hoping they had addressed this and no change. I did every imaginable adjustment to the sound card settings, hoping there was silly config. killing the game and no change. I'm going to kill the card, remove the drivers and replace it with a Creative Labs Soundblaster and move on.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH to everyone who posted in this forum and for sharing your findings. I assure you, nobody would even think of blaming a soundcard for a DFLW "Join Session" freeze.....

Good job folks!

Sheridan - my thoughts exactly - gonna take my Soundblaster card from my old PC. Just hope it doesnt mess with the Satelite TV capture software on media OS.

Hope Realtek will sort this problem out..I havent emailed them as I doubt they will bother replying - thou if anyone does get a reply - please post.

Only asking as havng a few problems putting on my soundblaster card as the realtek on mine is a built in one. Tried disabling from device manager but PC does not like it and boot up is not working properly. Any ideas?

You should disable the onboard sound from the bios..not disable from within windows..

ok - yout talking to a newb when you say bios - how do i do that? I can get in to the set up screen at the beginning before windows sets uo - do i then deactivate from there? Will it stick out as a soundcard/device?

sorry - did say i was a newb at this!

The RealTek device is part of the motherboard so I disabled it in the BIOS. If you hold a key down like the spacebar, it will slow down the boot process to let you get into the BIOS. Once there, disable the onboard soundcard. I think you can disable the device in Windows but it is better to do that at the BIOS level so it doesn't even fire up. Go to your PC manufacturers site to learn of the BIOS settings before messing with it though as one bad configuration can be a bad day!

Good luck,

ive tried everything including this

i cant get delta force 2 to work either

in my research on this problem i have found that our older delta force favourites aren't the only applications having realtek problems. there are plenty other applications and few fixes

so i gave realtek 1 last chance and emailed the following letter..(cross your fingers)

Date: Tue, 1 Nov 2005 09:41:14 -0500 (EST)
From: xxxx
Subject: realtek ALC860
To: pctech@realtek.com.tw

Audio driver version 5.10.00.5172
directx version DirectX 9.0c
Audio Controller HD Audio
Audio Codec ALC860

this soundcard is causing problems in many programs..it has rendered some of my favourite programs useless. there are too many problems to mention but I'll attach a link to one in particular. i have tried everything and the main consensus seems to be to get rid of realtek "junk" and never buy from them again. i am writing to give u a chance to fix your product before i follow suit.

http://www.dfbarracks.com/forums/viewthread.php?tid=36280&pa...

xxxx xxxx
xxxx, Ontario
Canada

xxxx = my real information i did not include in this reply.

good luck to all..i feel cheated ..how about you ?

well even thou i didnt want to I have disabled realtek HD from the bios and installed my soundblaster card.

Everything works now as it should so it is quite clear REALTEK is the problem. If they dont answer with some form of solution - suggest you boycott any product with it in. They lose out the end of the day and word will get round.
It makes you wonder what else it is the root problem for out there! I just stumbled on it by chance by playing with two seperate hard drives.
Oh well... DFLW looks as good as ever!! Welcome back Dune City!. Yaaaay!

Hi,

Yes, We are checking this problem now .
1. We had duplicate it in our lab .
2. We have tried our audio driver and Microsoft UAA audio driver .
This problem will appear on our driver or Microsoft UAA Audio driver .
This game is very older . But the HD Audio system was new audio architecture from Microsoft .
3. Have this game included chat function or any communication utility ?

but i cant disable von while my sound on because game hangs when trying to enter the setting screen..and i cant disable wit realtek disabled because it doesnt give that option..it onlt shows greyed out N/A :(

i will send this info to realtek and it might help them arrive at a solution quicker

Hi,

Thank you for your help .
We found VON setting . If I entered the VON setting item, system will freeze .
The Microsoft UAA Audio driver will freeze too !
Because this game maybe not run in multi-streaming mode/Multi-audio devie , even Vista ( LH ) OS .
HD Audio system is different from AC'97 Audio system .
The HD Audio architecture is defined by Microsoft and Intel .
We are following HD Audio system ( Azalia ) specification .
So, the Older game maybe not compatible with HD Audio system .
We want to contact game manufacturer to check this problem .

I'm having the same problem with DF2. I've emailed novalogic to ask how i can dissable VON while not in the game. Just like Land Warrior, when i click on the VON settings tab, the game freezes. =/

Anyway, I'm glad we know the cause now, I've been trying like mad to get the game to work!

I'll keep you posted on what novalogic have to say. ;)

Novalogic's support hasn't been helpful at all... After i explained the situation, they simply said to dissable the VON keys in keyboard settings, which doesn't make the slightest bit of difference. To be honest, i don't really think they care.

I've got df2 working when my sound is dissabled in the task manager, but since i use the sound to locate enemies, this has kinda spoilt the game.

A freind of mine said he found an nvidia sound driver that worked, so i'm looking into that right now, but until then, i guess i'll just have to keep turning the sound off :(

Any news from realtek?

no news...i have since sent them 2 emails asking for further update but no reply. i hope they not gonna try to sweep this under the rug because there are many other applications with this problem and i will look them all up from every help forum i can find them on and protest against the device and company. i'm sure there have been many people just in these forums alone that have opted for a different sound system with their new computer..wouldnt u if u knew then what u know now ?

Yep... having a bug in the hardware/drivers is one thing, but trying to ignor the problems of paying customers really gets to me...

Perhaps send a few emails to asus and msi tellin them to stop integrating realtek into their boards. :P
