One last stab, (with the game shutdown), select 'start' ,,,,,, (on desktop),,, then 'all programs' ,,,, then Novalogic,,,,, then 'right click' on the dflw tab,,, open the properties, and select 'compatibility' option. Post what version of Operatring System is in the box.

it could be a compatibility issue with the OS what OS does your old computer have(the one that LW works on?) if this is the case you might need a patch for the game to make it work in the OS which more than likely hasnt been wrote yet.

sometimes a CD will work right for an old install of a game and will still install on a new comp but it may have been slightly damaged but wouldnt show any errors while installing try cleaning the CD with windex uninstalling, reinstalling and undating the game to ver 1.00.42

you may hve to wait for a windows update to fix the problem

Im not familiar w/that os, but in the properties , try selecting 'win98/me' vs the win95 , then apply. (most of microsoft's stuff is platformed off those versions.)

That is what I am beginning to think that it is my OS. My scanner wont work with it either and I talked to the Manufacturer and they said that Media Center runs 64 bit and they dont make drivers that are compatible with Media Center 2005. Man this is a nightmare my other OS is just XP so you might be right about that too. It seems all roads point to our OS being the culprit....Any chance of someone ever making a patch you think guys????:D

Based on what i read about that os , (from microsoft) , they barely warrant it. ie: i went to their homepage, and found little to no info on it, and what i found didnt impress me at all. Swap os's if you have another, win98/win xp are much more stable for gaming.

Well most of your better computers come with it as the OS now. Almost all of the ones that I looked at when I bought this one ran with Media Center. Also I went to Media Center site and they have alot of video presentations, not sure if you meant microsofts site or media centers that you visited. Changing OS is not an option for me though because I use the media center to record satellite tv and then I burn alot of it to DVD and things like that. So thanks for the help guys and I'll continue to check back in case something else is figured out.

OKAY. . . .problem temporarily fixed!

TFD (i havent tried LW but i assume its the same)

when you start your game....if it locks up on the joining screen....try hosting a game...when u host it use any map, dont think it matters. then exit the host game - DONT TURN OFF THE GAME OR ELSE U HAVE TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN.

when you exit the game that you have hosted, go to someone elses server, and then i should let you in...if your having the saem problem as me

i think its something with the OS - Microsoft Media Center 2005, but try what i said above and it should work!

Thanks to Hell-AoD-....who stumbled upon this "fix" while trying to get it to work.

have a laptop - but not tried it. Not sure its powerful enough for DFLW thou the laptop is only a month old.?? But laptop only has XP on so I would not thought the OS would be the problem there - more the laptop being slow.

I would think this problem is a simple one and surely someone somewhere can sort?

Just that its beyond me!

If anyone has any ideas keep them coming. Think this may spiral as more people buy new computers with the New 2005 Media OS.

I play it on a laptop just fine sometimes but my laptop's OS is XP home edition. I bet if someone had Media Center on their laptop they would run into the same problem....

Not true,,,,,, when you buy a computer, you choose the os, not the manufacturer, (unless you go w/a base model, or special). My comment was directed at that version of windows, yes i found it on the microsoft site, but there was little to no information about it. From what i gathered it was simply a big brain type of os meant for hooking to your tv, (which most motherboards do now anyway). As for burning dvd's, (hardware like burners are cheap now, and they come w/ the necessary info to load in the rig).

Sorry didnt mean to offend if I did so. My point was is that I think that Media Center is Microsofts next evolution of Windows XP. Meaning that in the next few years you will probably have XP Prof. and XP Media Center as your two main OS. So software designer are gonna have to take this OS into account when setting up there products.....

No offense taken. Doubtful on the microsoft using that version as a base platform. (they are coming out w/1 in 2007, forgot the name). Bassically, if a manufacturer picks up a deal in bulk from microsoft, like for 2000 operating system OEM versions, they jump at it, and simply advertise the system w/it till its gone. ie: they will run /advertise specials on tv till they are all out of that particular os. But, as a consumer you have a choice, it may cost more, or less to change it . Secondly, the average user does not use their computer for multimedia purpose, (short of what their monitor can run). It would take alot of ram to run all those processes, (something the manufacturer fails to mention in the add as well.) ie: if your hooked to a tele, and burning a movie, while gaming, or surfing the web.

okay - I have sorted my problem out - or should I say I now know what the problem is on my new PC with media edition!

After addind a new hard drive to the pc - putting normal Xp on it and being able to play DFLW with no sound - i then enabled my SOUNDCARD!!! and had exactly the same problem as with media edition in the other hard drive!

So i then went back in to Media Edition - DISABLED my SOUNDCARD and hey bloody presto - I got online no prblem!!

So question is - do you have same or similar soundcard!! Mine is a REALTEK make and is a High Defintion Audio one (came in a Packard Bell Desktop). I never had problems with my old soundblaster card but for reasons that are beyond me - as soon as i enable it again i cant get online! I disable it and can!

I tried enabling it whilst online in a game but the sound did not work (so you can play without sound (yeh who would want to!!!)) the sound only works if enabled before you fire up DFLW.

So - dilema again but least I know what the problem is! I have emailed nova support to see if there is a PATCH or if they can help.

Any guys out there know if I can tweak the soundcard or if there is a patch? Ifnot - will replace with my old soundcard if I can.

Fingers crossed on the nova reply!

(Sorry microsoft!!!!)

If these are newer computers, it would be safer to call their tech support division. (its not novas issue that the audio cards are not being recognized) . It may be the cards are bad themselves, or need a serious driver update. Use your device manager and make sure the correct card is enabled.

I agree it is not a nova problem - thou they may still be able to help with patches etc. I def know that the issue is now the realtek sound card and I the device is working properly and has updated driver.
Im suspecting now that it mya be the software (ie the actual driver) or maybe the capture device that comes with the soundcard for recording the freeview/sat tv. (This is just a guess thou)
I have tried to download a basic driver for the soundcard (not sure its a soundcard even - think it is in built to mother board (need to check!)) - like basic ac90 sound - but having probs doing that. My thinking was just put on a basic driver and see if Nova loads.

Shife - any luck?

Think we know the problem now!
