DF2 lock-up with XP

Got a couple of mates that have bought new Pc's with XP .... after installing DF2 from original disc ... they lock up when trying to join multi-player. never even get to the establish system link of game.

Firewalls disabled. Only happens with Df2, not BHd or others .....

They say they did...

Are you sure?
I'm going to assume they are brothers and most likely live at home and are going through a router. This could also be a possibility, Might want to look in the game/tech forum at my post about router ports... That might be relevant, but your not tossing out much info here mate.

A bit more info will help us help you and your friends...

Cheers,

TY Fireant ... but no, seperate peeps. Single comp with both .... neither uses routers. I'll ask that they come in this thread and give ya the details of their new PC's. All was fine til they upgraded PC's and got XP.

Appreciate your responses and willingness to help.

Prior to running in circles, i'd try to grab a new copy of the game, then , and eliminate the cd itself. (they range from 5.00- 20.00 us, depending on where you get 1).

hmmm, so they had maybe a machine built in 98se or Milin days
2 things come to mind that I see so often when that happens
1/The machine is older, just doesnt have the grunt for XP
2/XP and older os use diff drivers, a driver issue, need to update ALL drivers, chipset thru to network, video, usb, sound, dx

Sure milienium sucks, 98se is still a top o/s, what was the REAL piont of upgrading in the 1st place?
If it works y fix it?

Have you tried right clicking the df2.exe file and going to properties and changing the compatibility to windows 98....might be a farfetched idea...but good luck

To eliminate the Router as the problem try connecting directly, without the router.

If it works then you know the router is the problem. If it still doesn't then you know that is not the problem.

I run DF2 with XP Home and I have no problems.

Of course I don't have a router either

The other thing I have done is set the compatibility property for DF2 to Windows 98 / Windows ME.

coupla questions to consider...

#1 what version do u have?
#2 are you possibly tryin to play without the cd?
if so u will need a no cd crack for that.
#3 the STARTUP.HTM...where is the URL sending u?

Can you Play DF2 on XP

I understood that DF2 was one of those games that just could'nt be played on a machine with XP - unless you have a duel boot system for XP and Win98.

Thats actually the reason why I've not tried it myself - did'nt want to faff about booting from floppy.

I am also having this problem - -- click on the Lobby and the Game just locks up. I have tried to shut down the firewall - uninstall Norton - open ports - did the update... Just don't know whatelse to try. This problem has just occured as it is a brand new puter --- I was running DF2 with XP on my old puter with NP... I also know its not in the Router as my other computer connects with NP..

AHHHH got mine to work --- go to Control Panel - Sound - Audio - Advanced - Performance - then turn Hardware Acceleration down all the way to the left..

I have a HD Sound Card -- just doesnt like it...

Let me know if that fixes it...

I did that same exact thing for some other games. Why didn't I do it for DF2?

Thanks for the heads up. It works.
