im guessing the table would be between 0 150 to 1 000 and the computer would be between 1 128 to 2 000 the way i usually do it is place 2 or 3 of the same objects and set each to a different z then test it to get an idea of where u need to place it keep doing this untill you figure it out it would probably be easier to do 1 object(table then computer) at a time

Unless you use the C4 Med then Z values are all about experimentation Distant. The list you have is only a guide so don't rely on it so much. Go try and build something crazy and you'll understand Z values very quickly.

yeah, basically put the computer over the table and put it's z value up one or two. That usually works. For the chair, leave it the same as the table. If this 'sinking' happens in the armoury, try it in some other building.

Perigrine comes up the closest

Ok this is what to do.. firstly place your armoury..

on a flat part of the terrain..then place your table in the armoury now whilst that item is highlighted ie the table go in to item attributes

look to the left of the page and you will see X Y Z

there,s two boxes for each.. in the second box oppisite z:type in this 85 so it should look like this z:0 85

Right now place a chair same again as above only this time type in it should look like this z:0 105

Now for the computer again as above only this time type in two boxes it should look like this z:1 128.

Once complete save and export your mission and go and have a look

best wishes dfb staff bill

In another day or so a one of the newest Z value list editors will be released, With the most accurate Z values out there yet, From floor to floor, roof to roof, Stacked, Floor to top of item, ect ect.Covers all games, will be able to put more in edit existing ones and save, Comes also with a compass for directions. Possibly looking at adding Z values for window hieghts as well. Screen shot below, The headers change according to games and whats being used. The only game that will not be covered in this tool right now is JO lol i don't own it lol ,But the buttons will be there for one to edit away there own personel collection, It has every building and such per game listed that can be stacked, and such .Anyhow thought i would let ya's know in case your interested in it later on.Very helpful for those who are really good with the 3d in the updated meds.

Even with updated Z-values they are only good for reference and cannot be relied on 100% of the time. Even terrains that appear perfectly flat have minor ups and downs and if your computer or chair or whatever happens to be on one of those little bumps or over a little pit then its Z-value can change.

So use the list as a handy guide and then go into your map and visually check each and every object. I would suggest doing an area or a room at a time so you can check a group of objects rather than one at a time.

You are correct Hairy , Terrains have alot to do with it, This tool is mainly for those not really good with using the 3d section of the med, And its better to have at least an accurate Z value chart to go off in the beginning then just throwing numbers in and checking to see if your to high or to low.

DF1 and DF2 users may like it alot since there meds don't have a 3d section ,Only in the converted med and not everyone can get that to work .

The Z value tool is up for download at MMH, I'll see EE and see if it can be hosted here as well, There will be updates pretty much every week, As i'm only one really working on it and it does take time, Df2 is pretty much covered but for the newer games i'm still working on it, Theres a Fogger tool as well there that just came out,

Hey Evil, just want to make sure you know I'm not trying to take away anything from this great resource. I think it's tremendous. I just wanted to make sure they understood that it is a guide, and while it is a good starting point they will still have to check each object. Thanks for the good work Evil.

Oh yeah Hairy i totally understand , No worries here mate, I'm not the best with words when trying to explain somthing, Umm how can me put this lol , The Z values seem to put the items closer to your goal than what i have seen in some of the other versions where when you placed an items and went to check it it was still like 1 inch to high. This isn't a pure fix by no means at all and only a guide. I have trouble using the 3d at times and found Z valuse a great reference to something.

what we need is a med where we can walk around on the map holding the items we want placed and place them where ever we want and they would be perfect , LMAO oh can one only dream , Imagine walking around with a com center looking for a place to lay it LMAO

LOL, that reminds me of something crazy I tried a while back. I was experimenting with adding a new weapon 3DI to my game. Just to see if it was possible I replaced the AT-4 3DI with the Pick-Up 3DI. Went in game, flipped to AT-4 and I had a truck sitting on my shoulder. LOL

Ive got a list of z-values for objects available for download in the download section, all you need to do is add the z for the building floor to it.

One question about the new z value refference tool, does it include objects? as well as buildings? also does it explain how to use the absolute z in the med.

It does have buildings, objects, decorations, vehicles, and misc, There is a weeky update and any ideas or things you want to be added i can work on, Some of the newer games theres still alot of updating to be done , For DF2 lets say , Theres a Z value chat for every table and its table top height from 0 - 30 , Meaning table placed at 0,0 item on top would be 0,20 , depending on what table you used , if the table is at 0,25 then the item on top of the table would be 0,233 and so on 0,50 , 0,75, 0,100 ect ect , to a max height of 30,0 . Most or all building have there floor vaules , roof values , tower and what they should be at when stacked . With weekly or so updates it should become very accurate tool for helping one make maps , As a guide of course . You can also edit in your own Z values if ya want , Down fall to that part of the tool right now is they would not be carried over to the new Z value update when put out, It comes with a compass for direcetion and such and web help. Any Z values you would like to see in maybe an update i'll try and get in there ,

Yes it has a ladder Z value to stack on top of each other once, to add a 3rd ladder you just need to times the number by 2 and so all 5,118 for the first and 10,236 for second and so on

Another update will be out shortly with more Z values fow lw and tfd

Its in the DFB resource section HERE located at the very bottom, I'll try and get the next up date out soon, and i'll add a column for items that can be stacked over and over with there values such as the ladders, The update will have an auto installer that will install directly into the folder made for the tool and or you can select the file folder manualy .
