Correct Install for DF patches and NoCd's

Be warned..using a NoCd patch on a Novaworld Login "Will" get your account banned....

I've found that some people are having trouble with patches for the DF series.

It's very important, if you use a NoCd that you follow this proceedure..it's the same for all DF games to date.

Always download the patch manually, try not to do it through the game..it's never very successful, and having a manual download means you have it for later use as well.

Useful Links

here's a link to Novalogic's update page..

http://www.novalogic.com/updates.asp

Rule number 1

Never over write a DF.exe file with a nocd. Always rename the existing exe file to new name. before putting on the NoCd.

Example...

Df.exe to Df.exe.bak
Df2.exe to Df2.exe.bak
Dflw.exe to Dflw.exe.bak
DFTFD.exe to DFTFD.exe.bak
DFBHD.EXE to DFBHD.EXE.bak

This is because, when the next patch comes out, it needs the ORIGINAL exe file.
If you try and run a patch on a NoCd exe, chances are, when you go to run the game, you will get an error, and it will close you down.

Rule Number 2

Always use the correct NoCd for the patch you have installed.

If a new patch comes out..you must have a matching NoCd..this may take a few days to appear, in the meantime, you'll need to use your Game CD in the CD tray to play..

So here's an Example...
dfbhd_update_012104_xx.exe is the last patch for DFBHD, after installation, it will flash 1.5.0.5 in a window when you run the game, so you will need to find the NoCd which matches this number.

The Actual Install

OK, you have downloaded the latest Patch...make sure you have deleted the NoCD exe file, and renamed your original exe back to the correct name..see above..

Put the patch in a temp drawer using windows explorer.
Using windows explorer, find the patch exe, and double click on it. It will open into a window.
You will be prompted to find the "Game Executable", browse for this using the controls in the window, you will need to go to your install folder, the default will be on your C drive.

DFBHD will be Program Files\NovaLogic\Delta Force Black Hawk Down

DFTFD will be \Program Files\NovaLogic\Delta Force Task Force Dagger

DFLW will be \Program Files\NovaLogic\Delta Force Land Warrior

DF2 will be \Program Files\NovaLogic\Delta Force 2

DF1 will be \Program Files\NovaLogic\Delta Force

your looking for the game exe file...

Df.exe for DF1
Df2.exe for Df2
Dflw.exe for Land warrior
DFTFD.exe for Task Force Dagger
DFBHD.EXE for Black Hawk Down, or Team Sabre.

Click on the file name and then "Open"...follow the promps..it may take some time to update.

OK, now, unless you have the NoCd, you need to put your Game Cd into the CD drive to play the game.

If you have the NoCd, follow the directions up in Rule number one before you copy the NoCd to your game directory.

Now Your Finished.....

Use windows explorer to put a copy of the update, the NoCd, and the Backup exe file into a folder, now zip them up into a new zip file, and name it the same name as the update...ie DFBHD 1.5.0.5 Patch and Nocd...now put this zip in a safe place...you may need to install the game again, and keeping the file safe will save you having to download it all again.

Hope you all find this useful.

Regards
EE

yeah, if you read the directions..it says, you should have backed up your old EXE file before installing the NoCd, so when you update again, you need to update the original EXE. which should be there as DFBHD.EXE.Bak, as an example. If you over wrote the original DFBHD.exe file when you put on the last NOCD, then you won't have a backup to Patch...so, you may have a problem if you install the patch onto a NOCD exe file.

When the game installs, you have a DFBHD.exe, this is the file that runs BHD...it checks for the DFBHD CD in the Tray.

The NOCD is a Hacked version of ths EXE file, that takes out the CD check..

The Patch requires the original DFBHD.exe file to correctly patch the game.

Seeing that the NOCD version of the EXE has been changed, the patch does not always work properly if you apply it to the NOCD version of the EXE.

SO, the best way around this is to rename the original DFBHD.EXE file to a new name, then put in the NOCD version of the DFBHD.exe.

When it's time to apply a new patch..delete the DFBHD.exe that is the NoCD, and rename your backup exe back to DFBHD.exe...then apply the patch.

So, if you overwrote the patched DFBHD.exe, then you haven't got a backup of the original...you may have trouble after applying the patch.

Well ping time has nothing to do with the way you installed the patch...it's more than likely your isp. Their are a lot of posts here covering ping times..do a "Search" for ping..

and don't forget.....

Using the NoCD patch will get your players, or worse, your account banned from Novaworld...fine if you don't care, but BAD if you and your squad play tourneys that require a login to Nova...ask me how i know...i have had both of my GOA characters banned for it...now I have to start over.

Vermoch 358th, you use the browse to find a place on your hard drive where you want to save the patch, usually not the game folder, you can put it in a temp folder if you want.

Using windows explorer, find the patch exe, and double click on it. It will open into a window.

You will be prompted to find the "Game Executable", browse for this using the controls in the window, you will need to go to your install folder, the default will be on your C drive.

DF2 will be \Program Files\NovaLogic\Delta Force 2

your looking for the game exe file...

Df2.exe for Df2

Click on the file name and then "Open"...follow the promps..it may take some time to update.

Maps..Read this..you will also need a copy of Winzip..Click Here
