I'm running FarCry om my AMD XP 2000+ with 768 meg of ram (3 x 256m x PC2700), I recently removed 256 meg, and left in 512meg..there was no difference
in performance..
I only have a G4 MX440 x 64 meg DDR vid card, but it still runs sweet , I have seen Icemans Asus system in action with FarCry...Totally Amazing...
For reference, I get "PC User Australia" every month, and read all the reviews..that's where I'm, quoting the performance stuff from in my above
post..

Oh, I forgot to mention..AGP is on it's way out..PCI Xpress will be here soon, it's a high speed PCI bus..much faster than AGP, so you may want to
hold off a bit, cos the M/B are AGP or Xpress, they don't have both...

Asus A7M266-D (dual)
2*Amd processors(1.6GHz each)
1GB of Pc2100 ram
GeForce Mx440
Runs ok especially when rendering 3D :o
Game Play...fantastic :D

Ok I dont know wher some of the people that are getting there info from. Being a die hard Intel & AMD user I can say that no way is AMD is a "MOD" of
Intel. 1. The instructions are different on both chips. That's is way AMD moved away from the Mhz war because they knew that it's not about how fast
the processor can go but how fast the L2 can process. As far as a gamming machine are concern. Everywhere you go magizine (www.tomshardware.com , www.extremetech.com , www.maximumpc.com) are recommending AMD based machine because of their performace vs price. So far short, when I go to the major Lan Parties most
of the machines are AMD. Now on the flip side of you are usinf photoshop 8 or any cpu intensive programs then Intel is the way to go. If you are a
gamer then AMD is the way to go because of there partnership is the Nvidia Nforce chipset.
To some things up for me:
My server PC:
Intel P4 3.0
2gigs of ram
120gb HD
ATI 128 9800pro
My game PC:
AMD64 3000
1gig Ram
120gb HD
ATI 256 9800XT

AMD64 the worlds best and getting better!
we use the AMD Opteron™ Processor Models 250 and 850 in our dftfd servers and found there to be no problems then we switched to pentium forget it we
binned it after 2 hours rubbish pure trash.
and if you have dibby dell well no wonder you have problems!
so lets face it AMD is the best....pentium will just have to face it there "trash"
thats why amd have just taken pentium to court again for stealing the amd specs again! fact.

I cannot see how P4's can be trash, I haven't had any trouble with P3's or P4's BUT just by runnin a couple things at the same time i
managed to set me curtains on fire! Took it down to the store and the guy said me processor was ........! it was a AMD Athlon 1600! They aint bad
processors but i wouldn't trust 'em again! Not after the P4 i got at the mo!

Well I see this thread is still going!
Hey guy's at the end of the day it comes down to personal choice.
Both CPU's will work well in the right environment. As long as all the other components are compatible such as, M/B, Vid Cards etc. Each CPU has it's
own strengths and weakness.
There is also a commen factor for AMD's or Intel based machines. Read Step's Sig!!

First of all we do work. Fix/repair and we build machines!
As we do not work we seem to be making a lot of money doing nothing lol -> my 3 brothers and me are field engineers! So if you feel that our statement
is not informed then I suggest you learn a bit more before you judge! or guess at a persons standing.

I am not aware of any ground shaking events that have taken place in the last few days, that would makea reputable builder change their opinion so
dramaticly!

Wow, never thought I would disagree with you Step, but your wrong. AMD is the gamer's cpu, Intel is the business choice.
Go to www.overclockers.com these guys are the true pros. They have done all the tests and over and over again, the AMD works better for games.
