Some castle bits (un-skinned)

Some modular castle pieces I've been working on. I'm still trying to find a texture I like. I'm looking for something like large grey (or brown/beige) rocks. I'd like to have that it's made of boulders. These are as low poly as I could get them. The square bits are as follows:
All 8M square with 3.75M between each floor & ceiling. Slabs are all 1M thick for rough terrain and have bottoms. All upper floors are .25M thick. Outer walls are 1M thick.

(from left to right in middle row)

1) 1st floor has no exterior openings. 2nd floor walls with 1 firing port & 1 window.
2) 1st floor with inner doorway. 2nd floor as above.
3) 1st floor with ramp to 2nd floor. 2nd floor as above.
4) Small corner piece. 2nd floor has 2 firing ports.
5) Large corner piece. 1st floor has no exterior openings. 2nd floor has firing ports on all but 2 sides (openings to enter/exit through via 2nd floor of other pieces). 3rd floor is same as 2nd (enter & exit from parapet). Top floor is crenelated all around. There is a ladder in the center that goes from 2nd to top floor.

As it stands the mid floors all extend to the outer edge and the walls are set on top of them. This makes skinning a tad fun so I'm thinking of having the walls sit on each other and the mid floors simply but up against the inside walls. Any thoughts, opinions, experiences on that?

I also plan on some pieces like #4 but at different turn angles than 90 degrees. Not sure if I should just do a 45 degree one or 15 & 30 as well. Then you could pretty much build what ever shape you want. I also need a version of #5 that is a straight shot through instead of a 90 degree turn. Not to mention a Keep and or portcullis type arrangement.

I've also been working on a rope net type ladder:

I'm having trouble with the textures though. At the end of each original piece I get a rainbow effect form the texture. The tops turn pink. Here's a close up view of what I'm talking about. This only shows up in BHD. In Milkshape it's fine. I think it's ok in the OED also but don't remember.
Weird texture issue

I used 3 sided cylinders to make the ropes out of to try and keep the polys down. Even though it should only take 1 strip as it's 1 group & 1 texture. The first one had 16,176 faces and the OED crashed on it. This one has 1,812. :D

Poly Count?

What's Poly Count? That's the total number of polygons, or flat surfaces, in the model itself. But that's not important right now.

1) 426 triangles, 634 vertices, 32 groups (all named 01somethingorother)
2) 438 triangles, 618 vertices, 34 groups.
3) 482 triangles, 662 vertices, 37 groups.
4) 428 triangles, 374 vertices, 32 groups. (Do I need to weld some vertices on 1,2 and 3?)
5) 1910 triangles, 1808 vertices, 113 groups.

I snap all the verts to grid before I weld them but perhaps I need to go in & snap & weld individual point groups to get them to combine properly.

A skinned piece

I was busy skinning the structures with a nice stone texture I found and realized I had a .25 M thick stone floor with no pillars supporting it. Worse it was not a slab floor but a mortered stone floor. From medieval times. :( Not technologicaly possible at that time I don't believe. So I re-did #1 and made the mid & top floors wooden. I still need to make the wood support beams but here's an updated shot of #1.

I LOVE that stone texture.

That is the intent. I plan on putting together a Building Blocks mod with walls, slabs, roofs, etc. that can be used by the creative map makers out there to make some absolutely fabulous maps. :D It's still in it's infancy though as I'm still learning to build stuff and to do it efficiently. When I get the castle bits that I have built (and am re-building AGAIN:() done I'm going to go through and get all the different versions done for LOS of what I have (probably after re-building everything else:() and then start on new bits. Eheheh. This is goona be cool. Eheheheh.:P

well from the pics i'm sure it'll be awesome. You could probably get somebody to make terrains for you too. don't ask me though, lol, all my terrains have slopes where you either hover or sink into the ground, lol

If you can come up with a working piece of medieval artillery I'd sure like to take a look at it. I'm actually toying with the idea of a Trebuchet. Of course then there's always the problem of aiming & making the castle wall bits take damage from them. It would still be neat though even if it was only good for splash damage on players.:D
