help plz


how do i get my own terrains working. This is for BHD. what file types do i save diferent things, and just what needs to be done to get it working without freezing my mission editor

ok i test my terrains by droping the files in the bhd directory "where the maps go"

but you need to make sure you right click on your bhd short cut on your desk top click properties and copy and paste this in the top box

"C:\Program Files\NovaLogic\Delta Force Black Hawk Down\dfbhd.exe" /d

then hit apply, then open your med and select your terrain from your terrains list
if that dont work give me a shout i will try and help u out

yes i have the /d on all my BHD shortcuts. problem is when i select it in general info, it freezes during the terrain's loading

ok then the problem will either be the .trn file or the .cpt lets look at the trn file either send it to me or post it here so we can take a look

basically i took the trn file from dvd2 and changed the color map and polydata to my own files. here it is

Now i know nothing about terrain making, so i wouldn't be surprized if the problem is in the trn

ok i think i spoted the problem where it says

polytrn_colormap village town.tga
and
polytrn_polydata Valley town.cpt

you want to put a underscore between village town. tga and village town.cpt like this village _ town. tga and village _town.cpt

or you can just make it one word with no space in between the words village and town like villagetown.cpt make sure you change that in the .trn file and the real .tga and .cpt files your useing for your terrain

ok, thx for being patient with me. you've been a great help so far. but i still have 2 more problems. 1, i got the map loaded in the med editor, but in 3d wireframe it shows as flat. 2, I thought if i tried it in the game it would show right, but it just gives me sysdumps.

ok not sure what the problem is with out the files, but maybe its the cpt conversion,i assume your useing fwo ravens cpt tool to convert to a cpt. this might help not sure when i convert my terrains i usauly use a 20% conversion rate 100 is way to high and will cause problems like that.try to convert useing 20% if it dont work i dont mind looking at your bmp greyscale pic and the tga color pic and the .trn file you will have to send them to me i will look at them and try converting and runing on my end to figure out the problem u can send it email if you want cause i hardly ever use aim

i remeber you saying your new to makeing terrains,so im gonna give you a good place to learn how to make bhd terrains,lol im wondering what you were useing to make your cpts though please tell me. anyways heres a link to fwo ravens cpt tool

alright thx. i'm gunna start a fresh one and tell you if i got it to work. thx for youre time and help. I really appreciate it. if you ever need help with anything (other then terrain making, lol) then i may be able to help.
