Actually they are versions of the same gun. the M16 has an Auto Sear (Fully Auto) and can shoot 5.56 and the AR15 is semi auto and shoots .223
rounds. The M16 is used for military and the AR15 is used for Police and Homeland security. The top photo is an AR15 and the bottom photo is an M16

Actualy the bottom is an m4, and the next post has an m16. all are built from the original M16 and are just upgrades to it.
