Multiplayer on LAN issues

I've dl'd DF Commander and IP4TFD - can't figure out how to get either to work. I filled in the LAN IP of my hosting machine and it doesn't show up when I start the game. Had the same problem with LW. This stuff was so much easier with DF1. Anyone help me out here?
