Linksys BEFSR 41

Does anyone know how to set my Linksys BEFSR41 Router so I can host BHD ? If you do, please provide a step by step procedure.

Its easy.. (however your in the wrong forum)

But anyhow..

Do this.. on the computer your going to run BHD on..

Click Start..
Then Run..
For XP type cmd and hit enter
Win98 type command and hit enter

You will get a DOS style command prompt

Now type ipconfig and hit return..

This should give you your local IP address - it will look like 192.168.1.???

Write this number down..

Now.. Open a web browser and go to your routers configuration page..

http://192.168.1.1/

And login..

Then.. click the advanced tab..

Now click the Forwarding tab..

Now.. on the port range forwarding screen on the first empty line..

under Customized Application type
DFBHD

under Ext. Port put
17479-17479

check the UDP and TCP check boxes..

In the IP address area put the last part of your internal IP that you got in the first step..

Check the enable checkbox..

Now hit Apply..

You should now be able to host BHD on that PC..

OK.. so that should get you playing.. however.. this setup alone is not nescessarily optimum..

If you plan on hosting BHD regularly on this PC.. then yoou should assign this computer a static IP address.. rather than using DHCP..

DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.. which is a fancy way of saying that the router will give you a new IP address each time you reboot your computer..

If you only have one PC on your router then this is no problem because you will always get the first available IP address and therefore your IP will never change..

However if you have multiple PC's on your network.. then your computer will get the next available IP address and you are not nescessarilly going to be forwarding your BHD ports to the right computer anymore..

To solve this problem you need to setup your PC to have a static IP address..

to do that you need to go into your Network Settings in your control panel and specify an IP address that the computer will always use..

then.. once you have done that you can forward the ports to that computer and know that you will always be forwarding the ports to the correct PC because your IP address wont change if you set it up as a static IP rather than using DHCP..
