I would like to ask a question regarding the update of the MED to the MED205c
I have a spanish retail version of BHD DF, V1.5.0.5. updated in novaworlds page. I don't have any other BHD game, as Team Sabre installed. I don't
have any other mods installed, as shok and awe or similar.
When I unzip and copy the file in my BHD directory were the old one is, and i execute it, any map that was fully operational, just comes up as loads
of red crosses, nothing else. even if all the elements used are pure BHD DF.
what am I doing wrong? how can I use the unlocked MED editor?
Tx in adavance for any help

Which One are u executing? and are u doing it via shortcut?Fife - 10-11-2007 at 05:06 AM
I am executing the unlocked MED 205c, Ive tried both from a short cut and directly from the BHD DF directory.
I have done it too with the old MED (deafault one) in the directory and without it left in the directory.
the effect I get is all turns to red lilte star-like crosses, when the map is fully functional. If I uninstall/delete the new MED, it all goes back to
normal.
Tx for your time and help

It has red x's because the med can't see the files it needs.
If you have the dfbhdmedv205c.exe in the same directory as the DFBHD.EXE file.
I've never seen the Spanish version. It may have different file names for the .pff files.
Do you have the following files in the BHD install Directory?
localres.pff
med.pff
resource.pff
If you don't, then that is why..
But, then again, if it couldn't read these files, the med won't even startup correctly, you would get errors, and everything would say textstring
error..
So, this is a bit confusing..

yep, those 3 files are in my directory. All this things work as a database, do you think the objects could be called by a name and not by a code, so
as to give a crash when looked up?
can I download an "english version" update to my game folder??
what program would open that ppf extension to see the contents??
tx again, we must be getting closer, lol

Try FwO Ravens pff utility which you can get from downloads section hereFife - 10-12-2007 at 10:45 AM
Tx for program, very interesting. I hade googled a bit last nite to find one, but it was a bit confusing.
the bad part is, I have opened the ppf and all is listed in english, so it's not a language conflict there in the database.
were else could it crash?
tx so much for your time, it is very much apreciated.Eagle_Eye - 10-12-2007 at 04:13 PM
I have no idea why this is happening..seems to me it should work..
Can you zip up your stock med, and email it to me, I'll see if that works with my English version..

Sorry, eagle eye, Ive been a couple of days out of town on bussiness trip.
i have sent the MED original version on my game directory, and a capture of what it does to me, to your email address.
Tx again for all your time and help

I have the email..thanks..
I have the same problem as you, but opposite..
I get red x's when I use your med..
I have them both in a hex editor, and they both look for the same pff files, and they both look for an items.def file..
Let me study them both for a few days, and see if I can find a difference that I can work with..
### EDIT ###
OK, what I did was pull the items.def from the pff file and put it in the BHD Directory..
It didn't work..
So, I decoded the Items.def, and now, it does work..
Seems your med uses a different routine to decode the items.def file, but, both can read a text version.
Do you have Team Sabre Installed? or just BHD..
I'll send you an items def to put in your folder..
EEFife - 10-15-2007 at 01:06 AM
LOL, that cant have anything to do with you been down under, can it???
hahahahaha.
tx for your time and interest. its very much apreciated
fifeEagle_Eye - 10-15-2007 at 01:07 AM
See my edit above..
Also, if you know how to pull out the items def from your version, I'd like to see a copy..
EEFife - 10-15-2007 at 01:08 AM
nope, i noted so in my first post. i only have BHD basic, i think you call vanilla BHD...
txFife - 10-15-2007 at 01:13 AM
do you need a copy of my items.def posted to you via email??
fifeEagle_Eye - 10-15-2007 at 01:15 AM
Items.def on the way in an email..
EEFife - 10-15-2007 at 01:31 AM
I could email reply, but then it wont be seen ! LOl
it WORKED GREAT. THE MED205.c OPENS GREAT
I just have the most funny question. I dont have an items-def in my BHD dir. I looked to save a copy just in case it replaced something i needed, its
not there!!!!
you asked before for 3 ppf files, we never talked about this file in question.
may that bring new light, or make more questions. anything i can send you or do just ask (i can burn a copy of CD and post it if needed)
TX A LOT. DFBARRACKS AND POSTERS, your good ideas are very much apreciated.
FifeEagle_Eye - 10-15-2007 at 01:44 AM
You will have a copy in the localres.pff file.
The difference is, yours in encoded with a different key than the english version, so, our med can't decode the items.def to read the names of the
items.
You can use FwO Raven's pff utility v0.7 to pull it out if you want..
