Nile and JO Escalation

chrislew200 - 11-19-2004 at 11:14 PM

just to let you know that you can use nile to build maps for escalation in fact i just been dirt bike racing this is what i had to do to get it to set the objects.

1) open nile
2) go to file prefrences set resource directory
3) now navigate to c:\program files\novalogic\joint operations typhoon rising\
4) click ok
5) new box appears saying "select mod resource"
6) select jox01
7) click ok

and now when you look at your items you should see the expansion items in there aswell.

I may have run into a problem. It is some what tricky to open existing JO maps for convertion into JO:E.
Methods I went through:

1.Changed resource directory to jox01 then opened JO map.

Problem: Opens, but removes the majority of objects from map and removes the terrain the Env settings and the tiles!

2.Opened map with normal 'res direct' then changed it tojox01.

Problem: Slightly better, leaves all objects/terrain/tiles etc. in place, however some objects in the selection menu now have no texture (save, a strange chequered pattern). Also some objects have missing models?

Anyone else experience this or other issues?

chrislew200 - 11-20-2004 at 07:19 PM

well i guess you aint good at following road maps aswell as instructions. i never told you to select jox01 as the resource directory. because it will remove all the typhoon rising objects bvecause it cant see them anymore just the mod.

DISCLAIMER FOR THE INSTRUCTIONS I HAVE GIVEN.

i can not be responsible for any mistakes made or you not following my instructions correctly.

Silence Falls - 11-21-2004 at 11:01 AM

Hey easy Chris, I wasn't following your instructions, I was making an observation on something I had already done, just adding some extra info for anyone who might have run into the same problem, I think I just worded it wrong.:)
btw... I have never read instruction manuals so no starting now.;) quite good at following maps though..... now, where was I?:D

chrislew200 - 11-21-2004 at 08:04 PM

my appologies im a bit firey iin the mornings and yeah the way you worded it made it appear at first was as if you ran into a problem with my instructions.

sys.dump

HomeGrown - 12-1-2004 at 02:36 AM

I was wondering if its possible to use items from both JOE and JO on the same map. I opened a map I was making for JO and decided to add some JOE objects to the map. I then tested my map with JOE and I get sys.dump.
So I tried testing with JO and just what I thought would happen the JOE objects dont show but I did not get the sys.dump.

with the new nile ver to .71 i have no problems like this.in fact never did sonthing worng with the way you set things up...uninstall nile update escalation and jo to the current version
then reinstall nile and update the nile.

Did you know...

Avernum - 12-14-2004 at 10:02 PM

You can copy the nile folder and paste it everywhere and will work. I started to have a pair of copies of different versions of nile because I change the version in the mid of design of a map and had a lot of errors (nile giving fatal errors, etc...)

I have a copy of the editor in a cd and sometimes I edit a pair of details in the work or in different computers.

This has never happened to me. before updateing make bakeups of your maps and after the update dont save to the backups till you have tested the map

Trying to learn how to make maps...

TDS>Luddsson - 12-28-2004 at 10:08 AM

Hey guys.. Like this site a lot.. :D

I'm new in map making, and therefore i am also trying to learn the Nile program..
But i get an "error" every time i open up NILE. I open it, selects the resource folder and then the jox01 for ESC. So far all is fine. Then i select the terrain and the environment i want to use, and BAMMMM..
The String Table Resource Editor pops up and i cant get it to go away.. CTRL+ALT+ DELETE is the only way to close the program when that happens.. Has this happened to any of you? Do you know how to get rid of the problem.. I have updated the program and i think it says version 0.71. TIA, TDS>Luddsson ;)

BARON_FEL - 12-29-2004 at 02:05 AM

for anyone who is haveing Ludsonns prob when the string resource table editor pops up press F9 and it should dissapear :D

TDS>Luddsson - 12-29-2004 at 08:19 AM

Got it..
If it pops up, press F9 and then on the OK button and voila, its gone. :P
TYVM Baron.. ;)

Either someone suggested it to me or I read it in one of the NILE faqs but they said to copy your resource files from your JO folder into your nile folder and set resources to your nile folder in preferences, this just makes it easyer for nile if everything is in one place.
files to copy:
jox01.pff
jox01L.pff
localres.pff
resource.pff

chrislew200 - 2-20-2005 at 03:05 AM

the problem you will have if you do this is that everytime you update the joint ops game you will have to copy the pff files across again. as nile uses the resource files for the maps.

I downloaded NILE, I upgraded it to 0.86 version, I followed your instructions but I can't see in the objects the new escalation vehicles like e.g. motorbikes, apache etc. what's wrong?

chrislew200 - 1-21-2006 at 09:53 PM

do you see jox01 when you select the resource directory

yes i saw it and i clicked it.

also when i save a map, i play it and i press "i" to see the briefing, i can see mission name: the name of my map (jox01).

the problem is that in the objects, vehicles list etc. i don't see the Escalatino objects.
