CHAOS area ??

Distant Storm - 10-28-2004 at 09:11 AM

ok so im just testing my map skills , i have created a map where when a spot light is desroyed the helecopter takes off with you in it !!
2) and then it lands in a low cavern and then when you shoot spotlight 2 in a different group an army of about 100 helecopters fly over,
THIS WORKED

------------------------------------------------------

i then put ai on each helecopter
and this happend instead

the starting helecopter just started when you got in it and not when the light was shot, the helecopter didn't follow the way points and went to where all the other helecopters were at bay, all the other helecopters were hovering and going baserk with all the ai and then when my helecopter was shot the helecopter traveld way back off the map far away and stopped in the middle of no where

how can this happen when non of the triggers had been triggerd
the way points were in the right place????? MAJOR CONFUSION can anyone offer an opinion ??:(

LMAO waoh, thats some funny stuff... but ive never heard anything do this before.
Hmmm.... maybe set the enemy helos to red aswell as the dudes in them, if you havent already. Double check all the waypoints and everything ---actually Ive had something happen to me in one of my maps too, the helo that your in, after a big assault on a camp, instead of flying on its normal waypoint route, it goes and flies backwards from the last waypoint to the first. Not literally backwards.. You should check how many helos you realky have. How many bgs are in each helo? Are they all running on the same group and waypoint? That might be the problem. Just check EVERYTHING!

If your helo is set for blue then it will imidietly go after any red ai's also red helo's will go after any blue ai's. make the helos green if they dont do any attacking or have a trigger that changes them to blue/red when you want them to attack, then back to green once the fight is over and you want to follow some more waypoints

I always keep my helos set for nuetral until the moment of attack and return them to nuetral after.

The problem is more than likely that you simply have too many helicopters and AI in a single area. Most people recommend you only have 60 or so AI in a single area at a time. I can't imagine what havoc you are causing on the game engine by adding an equal number of Helis to your map. It has to look funny though.

i have 5 rows of 8 helecopters
and each row is assigned a group
eg a1 a2 a3 a4 a5 then each group has a set of waypoints

and all the helo are (green )
and ai is (blue) so its still kinda puzzling , i have checked nearly everything

Distant Storm - 10-28-2004 at 08:46 PM

Ahah , i found out the problem i forgot about the ai that were parashooting in and they were (red evil) and sent all the other ai and helecopters mad
oh well its just a test and its a pretty kool map just needs some more work
anyone got any map making tips ?

Xx_jet_xX - 10-29-2004 at 08:56 AM

The best tip i can give you is play around with the events. try different events out and see what happens. you will learn alot that way and figure out ai and vehicle behavior.

lol, your problems crack me up. Helos going mad.. AH HA HA! anyway...
See, I knew youd find the problem. Its such a good feeling when you find the problem, isnt it? Then you look back and go "Oh, thats why it wasnt working! Now I get it!"
I love that feeling.
But I hate it when you have to rearrange a whole tonne of things to make it work.
