Hey everyone, ive created a teleport tutorial and a map making tips document.
I would apreciate any comments or suggestions on them.
The tips document is realy a work in progress so if you check it out and have a tip thats not mentioned in it, let me know and ill add it with your
name
I posted them on a webpage i have but i havnt added anything else to the page its on besides the download links. So forgive the boring page the link
below will bring you to.
Essentialy what i was asking is if i could get someone to take a look at either one of them and give me some feedback.
If your either new to mapmaking or have been at it for a long time now, it doesnt matter.
if your new let me know if it was easy to understand, and did it help you.
If youve been making maps for some time verify my information and let me know what you think. -Hairy - 9-21-2004 at 04:48 PM
Hey Jet, I skimmed through your porting tutorial and it seems well done. I especially liked the inclusion of pictures showing the map and the dialogue
windows, very nice.
If you did mention this then my apologies, but I didn't notice if you mentioned that players can be teleported just like AI. Xx_jet_xX - 9-21-2004 at 05:30 PM
Thanks Hairy lol. I dont think i mentioned it! Hmm im not sure where id put that in it. probably at the bottom, And ofcourse add a player teleport
into the map thats included.
I thought having pics of what i was talking about would make it easier to follow for someone with less experiance.
Im glad you liked that feature.
Thanks again --JET

nice tutorial jet and also thanks for the tips on operation obtain. i do have the dialog ting you said i should get and have tried to get the sounds
into it before but that didnt work out. i am going to try a couple more times
maybe ill do something different and it will work. you never know.Xx_jet_xX - 9-22-2004 at 12:31 PM
Hey fa send me a copy of the mis file in question with everything you did on the dialog ill go through it and let you know what the problem is. I had
trouble at first with dialog too, but once you get it figured out it isnt too hard.
I updated both the tips file and the tutorial.
I added a bit on teleporting players. and a thank you to you hairy for pointing that out. Iceman - 9-22-2004 at 05:44 PM
I added a link to that in the map tips document im working on just now originaly it was to the barracks telling people where it is.
that is a neccesary for anyone new to mapmaking.
You and EE did a great job on that. the descriptions of the various parts of the med were alot better than Nova's.Xx_jet_xX - 9-22-2004 at 06:40 PM
dang angelfire lol, they suspended my site for excesive bandwidth consumption!
Im going to find another host to test it. one that doesnt include either angelfire or lycos in the name.Iceman - 9-22-2004 at 09:26 PM
After I have finished mapping for EE I will be upgrading the Help File. If you would like to contribute it would be very welcome imput.
I have had a quick look at the 2 tuts you did and I would like to add them with your permmission to the new help file,

I'm almost the quick mission tut which states how to add you quick mission pics and brief with audio,It also contains pics, and links to all the tools
need and there all free.If ya want as well i casn send ya it ,Xx_jet_xX - 9-23-2004 at 08:53 AM
Roger Iceman you have my permission to freely distribute the file. I use Linux as my main operating system and as Linux is, my tutorials are free to
distribute!
Im going to send a copy of the updated tips doc. to you since angelfire wont let me upload. Dam @#$%^&* angelfire!
And DR. i tested the one you sent me and it didnt work but as you said it was for df2. I probably did something wrong lol.
But the one your making for LW will definatly get some use by me. let me know when its finished and where i can dl it.DR_EVIL_TAG - 9-23-2004 at 09:30 AM
Rgr DF2 one is close but some thins needed to be changed,The image files are smaller and the audio files are compressed more and more to them,I'll try
and get it outt soonest,Like i said above i think there are free tools listed and you will need them to do the files up properlyXx_jet_xX - 9-23-2004 at 02:06 PM
Ok i have a new host for the files, and i made it part of a real webpage!
Hey DR let me know if you want me to post your tutorial on my page.
Though it took me several hours to change all the urls in it and if some dont work im still working on it. so let me know what doesnt work if you
bother browsing the page.

I found out what i was doing wrong with the quick mission pic, I was saving it at 24 bit (16 million colors) .tga, when its supposed to be an 8 bit
(256 colors) .pcx file and the size is 221x208 pixels. I think you told me that already but im not sure. lol
Not many colors so im going to have some fun with psp making it look good.
Ive added my first one to my map Foggy Morning in the database!-Hairy - 10-1-2004 at 03:28 AM
Now we need a sultry female to do the voice of the Mission Briefings and our SP missions will be just like the ones that come with the game, LOL.DR_EVIL_TAG - 10-1-2004 at 07:45 AM
Yes quick mission picture can be a snap shot of the actual in game map and or a map of the location where the mission is to have taken place, For an
actual map search the web for atlas and or maps. To take the picture use the print screen button located on the upper right hand side of most key
boards. Then open your paint program and goto the edit menu and select paste, If your picture does not past in there or you paste function is not
allowed, Use the stock paint program that comes with all versions of windows located under the start-programs-accessories , Once the paint program is
open hit paste ,this paint program will allow you to do so. After that is done you can save the pic as a bitmap and then exit out of the windows paint
program and use your regular paint program. Once the pic is open again you need to resize the image and or cut out the section you want to use and
then resize it to 221w by 208h indexed pcx format. After your happy with the picture your plan on using you need to save/name it simular to what your
bms map was saved as, So if your map was title MAP1 then your picture will have to be titled M_MAP1 and so on for other missions ,By this I mean all
maps need the M_ in front of the bms name.
Ahh yes but the briefs are i bit more fun to do as you will need to convert the wav still from a stereo to a mono and from a 16 bit/8 bit to a 4 bit
,It also needs to be set to 22 mhz most editors you will see 44100,22050,11025 and 8000 the 22050 is the one you want. The audio format is IMA ADPCM
where most df games like df1 and df2 are PCM . The IMA ADPCM is simular to the DVI audio format. ADPCM stands for Adaptive Differential Pulse Code
Modulation. ADPCM is a lossy compression mechanism. More or less it is a more compressed audio file. For the converting of these file for LW you will
need one of the converters here Wav editor/creator adobe wave editor or db power amp the db power amp one is free and only about 2 mg and does everything you need ,The adobe on is only a 30 day trial and is
huge.Basically the LW formats are harder to do as most editors only support the 16 bit and 8 bit conversion ratio. Using dbpoweramp which is the best
tool i have found for doing so and its free at the link above, When you do a audio file and then convert it with the Dbp just open the wav you want to
make 4 bit mono and click on the compress button ,don’t worry about the rest then click on change format with in this section choose the format IMA
ADPCM and below that choose attributes 22,050 kHz 4 bit Mono as shown in pictures below. Oh and un click preserve id tag button you can save over
the orignal voice recording you made in 16 bit and or make a new file. Then the titling of the wav gets a bit more harder its all in my tutorial when
ever i get it done ,been pretty busy with other things lately
Here is the tutorial i started it may seem coplete but its not,It should help you though understand it more and i'll try and finish it up,Its in pdf
format and can't be added to unless you have my other files sorry,I'll try to finish testing everthing and word it in more detail,Remember its not
done and still needs more testing done to it as DFLW is way way different than DF2 which i have a full tutorial on and works great ,All tools i have
been using are in the pdf and has there links there as well .
Know any sultry females who would be willing to make a briefing Hairy?
Maybe we could get some volunteers?
Im going to check out the new tutorial DR.kahuna - 10-5-2004 at 07:23 AM
jet how do you get the custom skins to work i cant figure it out Xx_jet_xX - 10-5-2004 at 04:29 PM
1. put the skin file in the game directory,
"C:\Program Files\NovaLogic\Delta Force Land Warrior" folder or whatever the file path is on your system.
2. Create a shortcut to Dflw.exe on your desktop.
3. right click on the new shortcut.
4. Select Properties
5a. Select the Shortcut tab on top if not already selected.
5b. In the "Target:" text box add " /d" without quotation marks
to the end. (Sample below)
"C:\Program Files\NovaLogic\Delta Force Land Warrior\Dflw.exe" /d
