DFBARRACKS

front-liner - 9-1-2004 at 09:33 AM

I was thinking to myself (like a usually do)... Who started Dfbarracks? When was it setup? This site would have to be my fave and I would like to know who started the whole thing.

What little I know, and even that could be completely wrong :D, is that A.Bullet, »ßrïâñ«, and some other guys (§TING i think) decided to make a site to share resources in the DF community waaaaaay back. the result was DF barracks, which as time has gone by, has grown in reputation and size, because of the quality of information shared, and the quality of the staff and members.

DreadLord - 9-1-2004 at 01:15 PM

mmhm, last time i checked AB Brian and Sting bought it.

HumanTarget - 9-1-2004 at 01:48 PM

oh ok :)

front-liner - 9-1-2004 at 02:23 PM

really? How much did they buy it for? When did all this begin?

beautiful site, whoever made it took time to do it well.

bs2 - 9-5-2004 at 12:05 AM

:D gj who ever started this site...what was the orignal theme/layout too?

Death by Stewie - 9-6-2004 at 06:10 AM

Also how did EE become an admin?

Reddini - 9-6-2004 at 02:44 PM

JamieD EE most probably became an admin just like an officer in an army becomes a general through time and dedication have you seen the ammount of posts he has posted. (over 4000 and mostly helping others not asking questions)

HumanTarget - 9-6-2004 at 04:21 PM

EE also spends more time here than anyone else.. lol :D

REALLY??? Then what about Steptoe's insanely high postcount (high compared to everyone elses)

---Mojo---

chrislew200 - 9-7-2004 at 03:32 AM

lol steptoes post count well what can we say he dont shut up nah only joking steptoe is a man of knowledge as you can see bye his picture on his signature he has a lot of worry lines on that face.

he answers a lot of questions in the tech support side.

ee he lives here if you actually look behind the map database he has a bed in there i still disagree with him urinating in a bucket on a family site but he says he has to go somewhere.

Steptoe - 9-7-2004 at 06:36 AM

I have been around DFB 4 long time now, going back way before the last revamp of forums .
Most of my time is usually between reboots loading etc of customers machines.and thats why I often ask ppl to use the search button rather than find the info for them.
No Im not a Admin, I dont have the time to sort idiots posts out...An Admin postition is one of responiblity, not ego a thing . Also as u see by my well earnt title, often I dont suffer fools or lazy ppl too well.
Theres been a few stupid Amins/mods go thru here over the yrs, the ones we have now would be the best I have seen anywhere.

Xx_jet_xX - 9-8-2004 at 09:04 AM

Does EE and Steptoe share the bucket or do they have there own? lol if they share then they need to get A.bullet to give em one of there own.

Reddini - 9-8-2004 at 10:57 AM

hey you cant get two buckets to fit behind the database it takes too much space from the maps

Xx_jet_xX - 9-8-2004 at 05:27 PM

I didnt even think of that!

Wrong...the data base is rather big with all our posts..got to make your self comfortable lol

Also, EE is on staff so he gets his bucket supplied
Im not on staff so have supply my own bucket...actually im better off...the ones AB supplies, leak...they are 2nd hand from all the Admins hes fired over the yrs.

chrislew200 - 9-9-2004 at 02:52 AM

why is it everytime i reply to a topic its topic seems to change.

And another reason why step uses his own bucket is cause we dont wash them out between changes in the staff

chrislew200

Xx_jet_xX - 9-9-2004 at 07:55 AM

That explains the stains in the floors.

Steptoe - 9-9-2004 at 12:30 PM

"why is it everytime i reply to a topic its topic seems to change."

No it hasnt, it was your last post started the buket thing off :o lol

As far as the subject changing on other threads...its your Welish connection...bad latency...we measure ours in ms...yours is in days lol

Reddini - 9-9-2004 at 01:00 PM

so let me get this right we are now talking about topics changing or ar we still talking about the buckets

Xx_jet_xX - 9-9-2004 at 01:19 PM

If someone drops the topic in a bucket im not gonna get it out !
Some threads seem to bounce all over the place. so it shouldnt ever be a surprise when it does. annoying sometimes im sure.

front-liner - 9-9-2004 at 02:19 PM

all i wanted to know was about DFBARRACKS! lol

Thanks I thought it would make a good one. and here this thread changes subjects again lol

Eagle_Eye - 9-9-2004 at 07:23 PM

LMAO...I haven't checked this thread for about a week..and look what happens behind my back....

Mind you..it's a funny as a Kiwi trying to beat an Aussie at BHD...!!!

On a serious note..if it wasn't for people like AB and Steptoe, DV, Major Headache and a lot of others,,there would be no DFB, DFArena and a few other sites...I can tell you that I have offered Steptoe a Staff Position at least twice...now I just consider it lucky for us that he turned me down twice...lol...

I have been a member of Barracks for a lot longer than the 2 years my sign up date says, I was a member before AB and company bought the site, but they reset all the forums and memberships when they took over, so I lost my dates, and posts, but, they gave the site a whole new direction...and I must say, I'm pleased to be a part of it, and, if my wife doesn't break my keyboard over my head for being here too much, then I'll be here for a lot longer..and I'm on dialup..just think how much time I'd spend here if I where on ADSL..LOL...

Anyway, now I've posted here, I suppose I'll get a heap of emails reminding me to read this thread more often..maybe I'll ignore it for a while, and see what happens while I'm gone..LMAO..

Here's to my mate..Steptoe..he may be a Kiwi..but he's alright by me..ANZAC's Rule !!!

How did I become Admin....well basicly, I'm an avid DF game player, who likes to map, I have a good understanding of gameplay, and how the game works..I'm not a coder, and know nothing about programming, but I learn quick and know a few tricks..I have a bit of a technical Mind...lol...I like to help others, and share what I have learned, or researched..knowing this..then you can see why AB offered me a Super Moderator position over a year ago, since then, I've been made Admin, I suppose because i have more patience than he has..lol..and because I haven't pissed him off yet LOL...

I use methods I've learned in Management jobs, here at DFB, I give Respect to earn Respect, and I expect that the members do the same thing..

EE

Xx_jet_xX - 9-10-2004 at 05:57 AM

Ive known a few managers who need to read your post EE.

Eagle_Eye - 9-10-2004 at 10:13 AM

LOL Jet, Yeah, and I bet that they have the poorest performance from their employees as well.....some people never learn...

EE

Xx_jet_xX - 9-10-2004 at 11:19 AM

How did you ever guess! plus when the work requires overtime nobody will volunteer!

Steptoe - 9-10-2004 at 05:43 PM

Oh Dont worry, If the Admin at DFB came up and was advertised, there would be heaps wanting the job...
Most for personal ego....
From memory, EE got appointed cause he did screw up, and how he handled it,
We all screw up....its how he handled it that AB appointed him...
And that how we have the best admin in all the yrs been in DFB

Xx_jet_xX - 9-10-2004 at 06:02 PM

Jobs at DFB
They do advertise the possibility of jobs lol

Eagle_Eye - 9-10-2004 at 07:13 PM

LMAO Step..you remember that..well, so do I..maybe I wish I didn't...

We don't advertise any more, if I need someone, in a certain Field, I'll usually choose someone, then ask them...the Jobs at DFB is blank, cos I blanked it out...

So, the only way to become a Staff Member, is to be a good member, helpful, knowledgeable and ready to help..even if it means dropping what your doing, and testing, or researching someones problem..be it mapping or technical..

I already have my Eye's on a few people..lol..

EE

A.Bullet - 9-10-2004 at 11:22 PM

eww yuck.. get your eye off of me man.. it all slimy and gooey.. yuk..

Mojo2004 - 9-10-2004 at 11:39 PM

ok...this thread confuses me now :(

Iceman - 9-11-2004 at 12:36 AM

Getting back to the bucket, being the new admin boy on the block I was given a jam jar AB & EE are cutting down on the budget...Bugger gotta stop 1/2 way through to empty it in EE's bucket, which now has sprung a leak and is to into the download section, I hope it doesn't turn the page to yellow.....lol and its starting to reach the forums section by the looks of this thread...lmao

It reminds me of the song " I got a hole in my bucket dear Liza"

Hey EE fix your blood bucket will ya so we can get back to a dryer atmosphere...lol

Ahhhhh......hang on just going to empty my jam jar!.......................

Back again ,boy I am finding it harder these days to stop when I am 1/2 way through doing something the pain is excrusiating...... The pain the pain....lol
