AB JOMed - You can have a daylight map in JO!!

Eagle_Eye - 7-22-2004 at 07:42 PM

OK, you can have a daylight map if you want, you don't have to use the 4 available Sky's..

But...you have to edit the mis file with a text editor, like editplus, or notepad will do..

Make your map, save it as a mis...

Open the mis file in a text editor, now, your looking for a line that says, it's not far down the list..

sunset FULL_00 or
sunset FULL_01 or
sunset FULL_02 or
sunset FULL_03

These are the 4 options you have, you would have FULL_00 as the default....now change the FULL_0X to DAY2 so it looks like this..

sunset DAY2

I tried a variety of these, day1, dawn1 etc, but they all turn out the same, a daylight map, with some fog..

Now, save the file

Start your Jo Med..load the mis, export it as a bms, and convert it..

Play the map..and you should have Daylight, with some fog about 800 metres out..

Better than having only night maps..

Great tip, I have one too.

Copy this text bellow into a notpad and save it as "DAYTIME.ENV" Save into your med-folder. Now you can choose the daylight in the med. The result are day but no clouds, couse the ENV-file aren´t in the gamefolder. Copy the file into your gamefolder to get the clouds. But i will go with EE´s tips for now. Becouse i havent got any joiners to confirm the daylight or clouds. But maybe this can help anyone to better understand how the enviroment is working. lol

Have you noticed m8 using that makes the Sun Shine come from the ground. lol

Also it does the same if you just delete the FULL_00 from the sunset line in the mis.

To Properly add daytime to your maps create a wac file with this line:

TOD(1200)

Save the wac the same name as your map, But make sure the server uses the /d command so it reads the wac file.
Clients dont need the /d command just the server.

Hope this helps, This is not from me but from Smokin from DFA.
I have tried it and it works fine. ;)

Sal.
*Edit* Just thought I would take a SS to show it working.

FOG!!!

Ammo - 7-24-2004 at 08:33 PM

Thanks for the info guys on the daytime but how the hell do I get rid of all the fog?
I`v tried changing the fog settings in the MED and in the text files but to no avail can anyone help?

Thanks in advance..

DV - 7-24-2004 at 11:46 PM

use fogdist(#)

but the max range is 1000meters

//and do the tod like this:

if never() then
TOD(1200)
endif

otherwise the TOD gets set to 1200 every second

Smokin@420.BUD - 7-25-2004 at 12:44 AM

Just download my wac file unzip it to your JO Folder.
To get it to work with your map just click your right mouse button on the wac file and rename it the same as your map.

Example my wac is named UrbanWarefare.wac just rename it to your map name so if your map is named City then change the name to City.wac

>>>Wac File Download<<<
Hope this helps you m8.

How do I know the server uses the /d command and if it doesnt how do I turn it on?

Sal UK - 7-27-2004 at 12:38 AM

Its ok I have tried this out and the /d command doesnt need to be used in JO, It will read the wac anyway.

Just make sure the wac files for each map is in the jo folder with the bms`s.

Hope that make sense to you.lol

Ammo - 7-27-2004 at 01:19 AM

Ok Iv done all wat you guys said and put the wac. file into the JOps folder and renamed it the same as the map its all cool the sun is shining but I still cant get the sky showing and the fog is still prtty thick in the distance.

If you use the wac file then No, Everyone will see daytime only the server needs the wac file.

Oh and thanks for your comments on my map M8. ;)

SH*PR* - 8-4-2004 at 07:19 PM

great tips here...cheers

question

how i can add fog for the water instead for the air...on some stock maps i see dense dirt water but less "air" fog
if i am doing a map with visibility 700+ the water is like on BHD...but i want dirty water... cheers

drooby - 8-6-2004 at 08:27 AM

I've got it, only use the wac file, and put in on the server thats hosts the map, it works even when I use full_00, sun shining day with clouds:)

what?

Don't worry about daytime :D
With nile you can choose your enviroment and then the tod you want people to play in.

I'll tell you why.... cuz when the server sends the map to the client to load up it tells it to load enviroment file X, BUT X is not downloaded from the server it is locally loaded from the client's pff's so unless the people who play in your server have that specific ENV file in their pff or JO dir. they will see none of it, and it just defaults to no ENV settings. This is cause the ENV file tells the client what images to load, like cloud images, sun, moon, stars (yes there is starfields but none of them use it). if it didnt load it locallly it would take forever to load maps up. and bog the server down hard when people join in and suck all the bandwidth up. This is also the reason NL came up with NILE and its COMPRESSED map files. makes it quick and helps reduce the lag esp. when there is tons of people in the room allready and everyone is trying to DL the map file at the same time.

chrislew200 - 9-13-2004 at 07:04 AM

his is why we want nile to work fully because from what i see in it everything is built in i know its just a beta but i have lots of good feelings on this one. in fact looking at it from my point of view no more seperate wac files god thats a saviour for me to start with.

DrDeath - 10-16-2004 at 01:58 AM

wow ,, am i glad iread this forum,, before i tried making daylight on my servers maps, sure sounds like a hassle, i hear everyone talking about N.I.L.E , is one able to edit maps with NILE , please explain , i went into nile and i understand it creates a file that you can look at as far as where players were and things like that from previous game,, but how do you use as map editor? how can you make effects in map?
thanks
