Delta Force Barracks Forums

"macho moderators"

-US-Ranger1776 - 2-1-2004 at 04:30 AM

I think responsibility is a key trait in running a forum. The forum moderators must have this skill. When a site like DFBarracks gives children or incompodent people authority over a forum, this get out of hand. Here is an example: I have had two (2) of my posts locked and threatened that they will be deleted. Why is that?
Why do moderators impose their authority with no regard for the users of the site? I would like an answer to that question by A Bullet.
Some nice and responsible people here are Peebs and a few others. Other than that, Im not impressed with the childish behavior here.

Sharptooth~RGR - 2-1-2004 at 04:40 AM

I think that if you are that unhappy that A.Bullet would like to know! Send him a u2u msg and I'm sure your concerns will be addressed.

Jonny Rubber - 2-1-2004 at 06:06 AM

I'm sure the moderators will of given a reason as to why they were locked or deleted.:D

Oh and to refer that someone is childish when they are nearly twice your age...........I gotta laugh:D

childish

-US-Ranger1776 - 2-1-2004 at 01:16 PM

When I observer childish activities and the people are supposed to be "twice-my age", its really pathetic.

Eagle_Eye - 2-1-2004 at 02:42 PM

Moderators lock, or delete threads that are "In their Opinion" heading in the wrong direction, or they deam offensive, or just pointless...This is a family oriented site, so we need to constrain ourselves sometimes, there are a few more threads that will be locked or deleted shortly...your lucky your threads weren't deleted....at least they can still be read.

Political topics like "Kill or dont kill Saddam." are a touchy subject...the threads been open long enough...now it's time it was rested....you want to start a public outcry about Saddam...write to your local newspaper..

End Of Story

Regards

touchy posts

JOHNSON-ACF - 2-1-2004 at 11:01 PM

omg this is a friendly forum ? lol
i agree with us ranger 1776 at least hes bringing current content to this forum which btw is far from being "rested"
get a grip we play war games and guess what, his topic does pertain to this forum.
if you see this as touchy, then i think you better realize this is a war gaming forum, where troops will bring up omg "war stuff@! which obviously pertains to politics!
lighten up:P

***illegal size sig unticked...please read the rules regarding sig size at DFB...try resaving it as a gif, bmp is always too large***

Eagle_Eye - 2-1-2004 at 11:59 PM

This is a forum for Delta Force games....We have a section for people to speak their mind, but, if we decide that a thread is becoming out of hand..then you, as a member, need to take stock..and accept the fact that we decided to close it..

Regards
EE

GAMES is right.

davesnow - 2-2-2004 at 12:23 AM

Yes, this is a war GAMES forum. Delta Force is just that, a GAME, and both children and adults play GAMES. It is a first-person shooter, granted, but it IS NOT ANYWHERE CLOSE TO REAL WAR! (Anyone who doesn't see that difference needs to get a grip!) IF you want to know what REAL war is like try spending a year in a foxhole in the middle of a REAL War zone. This is a GAME.

I completely agree with Eagle_Eye. This is definitely a Family ORIENTED Forum, and being such, any thread a Moderator deems offensive, vulgar, or just flat-out in bad taste is subject to being deleted. Seesh, there are plenty of other subjects to talk about besides a modern-day Hitler!

OK OK

JOHNSON-ACF - 2-2-2004 at 12:59 AM

OK OK NOW MY SIG TOO BIG LOL!
E.E. YOUR SIG MAKER MADE THIS ~!

IM JUST STATING THE FACT THAT HE BRINGS UP INFO THAT PERTAINS TO REAL WAR! (WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO EMULATE !(IE: PLAYING WAR)
AND YA, WE AS MEMBERS MUST REALIZE THAT THIS IS ALSO A GAMING FORUM SO WE NEED TO CHILL ON WHAT WE POST!(THIS IS AN OPEN FORUM AND I WAS SEEING SMOKE SORRY ALL);)
TO YOU DAVESNOW BEEN THERE, SEEN THAT, REALIZED IT! PERIOD!

nice sig

-US-Ranger1776 - 2-2-2004 at 04:20 AM

i like your sig.
the problem is, "family oriented site", children should not be playing war games. The reason? the box clearly states that the game is not meant for children. But, that is beyond the point. I dont like how, if someone doesnt like my post, they lock it. I think the topic of Saddam needs to be talked about, all we are doing is venting our feelings about an evil man. If it was thought to be "pointless" i feel sorry for the loser the locked it.

Jonny Rubber - 2-2-2004 at 06:26 AM

Moderators are here to moderate, ie to try and keep a happy balance.

Not everybody is going to be happy with their decision's, but these decisions are not taken on a whim, just to get people mad, and at the end of the day if you don't like it you can always go somewhere else.:D

-US-Ranger1776 - 2-2-2004 at 06:42 AM

I dont know how you can be so sure. Im not saying that some people hate me and want to get me, but you dont know what they are thinking. You may know them well, but...

Jonny Rubber - 2-2-2004 at 06:46 AM

Yip, I saw the discussion regarding your thread and the decision was made by more than one moderator:D

Shock - 2-2-2004 at 10:55 AM

i made that sig and it was not a bitmap when i gave it to you, therefore i believe that you resized it yourself or tried to manipulate it yourself. you must remove it because your version of yoursig is breaking almost all of our sig rules. we have a 425x125 and 35k sig size limit, you have taken your sig to over 100k, and it is also a bmp, and we only allow gif and jpeg images, if you would like me to repost your sig, in the correct version i would gladley do so, so you can have the allowed one, please read the first line of my sig block.

We don't hate anyone...but we keep our eye out for members who like to cause trouble...swear in their posts...and generally have bad behaviour. Youv'e been a member for a short while, and I see, from your profile posts list, you like to have an opinion...fair enough...you even challenged Steptoe...and you have posted in just about all the controversial posts you could find...looks like the majority of your posts are not game related at all..seems to me your a time bomb waiting to go off....now you've attracted the attention of all the moderators...they'll all be watching every post you make...Hope you feel comfortable with that...

Did you ever find out how to put boats on waypoints?

http://www.dfbarracks.com/forums/viewthread.php?tid=20866

You never finished posting here, so I don't know if you foumd an answer or not...(the true reason for this forums existance)

You posted this, knowing that the sig was altered...not very sporting of you now is it...

I'm a fair person, ask Sharptooth~RGR, when I picked up Sharp a few months ago for having an over size animated sig, I took the time to pull it apart, resize it all, and put it back together, just so Sharp didn't lose a great sig...and I'm not even on the sig making team...

So, don't try and pull the wool over my eye's...not impressed mate...

Kitfoo - 2-2-2004 at 01:32 PM

I'll say one thing about this forum...the users in here should be lucky they can discuss the intentions and actions of the mods. In the forum I mod, any discussions about the actions of a mod or mods is deleted without hesitation. Its against the forum rules.

I am the actual loser that closed the thread

In my opinon this thread was going nowhere fast and was mainly between two members. The debate could have been carried out on icq or msn! Saddam is old news! The decision was made after a lengthy discussion with another Modorator and shall remain in confidence!

GHOSTRIDER~RSU~ - 2-2-2004 at 07:56 PM

HEY ICEMAN55 JUST DO WHAT U HAVE TO DO AND LET THE WHINERS WHINE U CAN NEVER SATISFY EVERY 1. STICK TO UR GUNS AND STAY FROSTY.

Thanx

Iceman - 2-2-2004 at 08:06 PM

For the support GHOSTRIDER~RSU~ appreciated

I'm still trying to find the other thread of yours that was closed..you want to point me in the right direction.....

The Only threat I see is if you start another Saddam Thread...there was no mention of deleting the existing one..it was just closed..

Regards

-US-Ranger1776 - 2-2-2004 at 11:34 PM

Im thankful we can talk about a lot here, but, I dont see how the topic of Saddam is "going nowhere". It was not old news when I started the post, they had just captured Saddam, and I was wondering what you all thought should be done with him.
Moderators unite to lock someone's post because it was going nowhere...
Im sorry if I have arroused controversial topics, but I think it is good for people to talk about those things, to think about subjects and not just talk about this great shot they made, or these great stats.
You could include a new forum, or just let some people voice their opinion. The Saddam issue is tied in with war games. He was captured and his sons killed by American soldiers and that is what is portrayed in the Delta Force Series.

Steptoe - 2-3-2004 at 05:20 AM

As one can see I have been around here for a long time....
I have been concerned at the actions of a couple mods and members in that time...I spoke to A.Bullet/snr mods and has always been put right.
I have responded to some posts...been deleted (well the whole thread on occasiobs usually has because of the orginal content , even the orginal poster been banned to lol)
With my time here and often striaght up posts with no concern for dipolmacy
I have had my run ins with mods etc. BUT I have NEVER had a complaint about ANY of the end results and final descions made.
At the end of the day...there is little flaming, abuse, and what complaints there are are minor...BECAUSE a TIGHT ship is held here with enough blalance to have fun.
If one looks thru other forums, they are not as busy, dont have the same #s just browsing, have more flaming, and attact more idiots, and DFB has been around for a looooonnnng time now
If one doesnt like the way DFB is run, move on (I moved on from other forums and ended up here lol plus couple others)

Sharptooth~RGR - 2-3-2004 at 06:35 AM

Very articulate Steptoe and EagleEye!

Yes, EE is very fair! I to had a problem with one mod and EE took care of the problem for me. He also helped me fix my sig as I was warned just like you. Like I said earlier, "send a u2u to A.bullet and he will help you"
The mods here are not paid to moderate. They have a vested interest in these forums because they love what they do.
Do people ever get out of hand? Yes, do the others here bring them back in line? Yes!
I think the point here is that as Moderators they have been given the power to decide. If you don't like it, go find another forum. Or better yet, build your own and have a topic regarding whatever you want.
As an administrator for our squad forums, I know how it is to make sure that the forums are running as the owners wants.
Someone has to do it and it would be nice to hear please and thank you a little bit more than pissing, [Censored]ing and moaning.

I love the barracks and the way that they are run. There are plenty of forums out there that don't hold these standards and I won't waste my time.

Thanks to all of the Barracks personal, you do one hell of a job!

Eagle_Eye - 2-3-2004 at 10:30 AM

Thanks for your your support Sharp...we try to do our best...sometimes we cause more trouble than what we asked for...but you get a bit thick skinned after a while...but it still bugs the hell out of you...

Regards

Eagle_Eye - 2-3-2004 at 11:59 AM

I know he's not trying to disrespect anyone..but there's a point where you need to stop...we have our jobs to do here...I respect the fact that your sticking up for your mate...but, from the posts I've read of his...I put him in a basket with MadHatter....and see who can put up the most contraversial subject...but Mads getting better...LOL...

Steptoe - 2-3-2004 at 01:08 PM

Threads like this are very valid...lets face it DFB is a busy place, new ppl all the time...it clears the air everyone knows where they stand.... stuff like that
Someone mentioned please etc....after a while a quick note "sig to big read the rules..." we are big boys here arnt we ?
a breif unoffensive note is reasonable, after all the mods a regulars are flicking thru busy threads quickly they need a breaK LOL.
Often some of my aswers are a simple "no" just staight to the piont lol

WELL I WISHED I COULD PULL THE WOOL OVER YOUR EYES!:PJ/K
I HAD NO UNDERSTANDING OF SIGS UP UNTIL I JOINED THIS FORUM AS TO KNOWING I RESIZED IT WAS A MISTAKE ON MY PART AS I WAS UNABLE TO GET IT HOSTED IN THAT SIZE AND FORMAT(TRYING TO LEARN);)
I HAVE ASKED SHOCK TO RESIZE IT AND PLACE IT IN THE CORRECT FORMAT.
I AM SORRY FOR THE SIG SIZE.
I WOULD HAVE POSTED EARLIER BUT WAS ON THE ROAD FOR TWO DAYS!
MY M8 SWINKLES APPARENTLY STAYED UP TOO LATE AS HE WAS REPLYING TO A POST WHICH HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ME IN PARTICULAR LOL OH WELL MY BROS ALWAYS FAITHFUL
THANKS FOR THE EVER WATCHFUL EYE OF EAGLE EYE!
NO DISRESPECT TO THE MODS!
I LOVE DF BARRACKS AND I COME HERE CAUSE ITS AN OPEN FORUM WITH RESPECT TO YOUNGER FORUM USERS
I RESPECT EAGLE EYE I SHOULD HAVE NOT HAVE REPLIED WHEN THE POST WAS ENDED BY YOU A MODERATOR
:D CAN WE LOCK THIS NOW LOL?

Eagle_Eye - 2-4-2004 at 12:45 PM

No probs mate, all welcome here, I was even nice in the U2U's I sent, you will notice I even offered advice on what to do, just like a responsible Moderator does...well, most if the time any way...LOL...

It stange that you can't get a gif hosted...it's the most common format for web graphics...there are other frre host sites around...check the sig forum, if you can't find one...let us know.

Shock has the original PSD format of your sig, he can supply another gif for you, I'll ask him to post it here, and you can pick it up..

Regards

JOHNSON-ACF - 2-4-2004 at 01:00 PM

THANKS E.E.
i have a new site that allows me to host pics! so that problem is solved. thanks for asking shock for me!
And yes his U2U's were nice even after i gave him shat lol
thanks m8

=UFP=SilverStar - 2-8-2004 at 11:06 PM

I agree with all the "Moderators".....that is why they are here. True this is a public forum, but they control it! Ranger, if you dont like this, open your own forums and moderate it the way you want. That is probably your only option at this point, especially now that your under the magnifying glass of the site.

perigrine falcon - 2-9-2004 at 03:57 AM

some of these are based on my opinion
1. could people find that post offensive - yes
2. is it a war related topic - yes
3. was enough there discussion on the subject - yes
4. does BFB have limited space for this site - yes
5. do the moderators moderate for DFB's best interests - yes
6. was the moderators more than fair in there decision to close as opposed to delete-yes
7. is this site partly so popular because people can voice there opinions and at the same time not be offended because the moderators have the power to lock or delete posts - yes
8. do the BFB staff put countless hours in for no pay to make DFB more enjoyable for its members - yes
9. does DFB provide all its services for free to its members - yes
10. can i stop typing now since i have 10 yes Q&A - yes

Viper*15c* - 2-12-2004 at 10:47 PM

why cant we just all get along lmao..i think when one starts a topics and seems to be poplular and its not threating ne ones life like for ex: hey soso8 im going to kill you if you dont stop, that is outta hand, now like the sadaam thing or the osama thing, its not getting out of hand on what people feel abpoout them, there not threating ne one, just saying how they feel, and as long as no one starts to insult, or say rude jestures to ne one, i thnk the topic should stay

ATi - 2-12-2004 at 11:58 PM

Dear Lord! Its taken me an estimated ten minutes to read through all of that! My eyes hurt - thanks alot :)
this Forum (and site for that matter) is DF orientated. Therefore, in my own opinion thats all that should be discussed here really - "killing Saddam" or whatever does not really have any place in a forum like this.
My younger brother also plays the DF series and granted he is under the recommended age for playing - I dont want him going to school and telling all his friends about something he saw on this site - because he would probably misunderstand it and therefore speak of something totally different like "Saddam is Dead!" etc.
Currnet affairs I agree should be posted here if they affect the entire globe (as the war did) and I also agree that if it looks like the thread is heading a bad way it should be closed. We DO have our opinions yes, but we should be able to express them with the respect of other peoples feelings in mind, and try not to cause offence.
Now my fingers hurt!

-US-Ranger1776 - 2-13-2004 at 12:33 AM

I suggest DFBarracks place a Disclaimer on the website. This would be a great idea for many reasons that I dont want to get into right now. In the Disclaimer, have all the information you dont want talked about, what you think is important, and what is not. Also, that you should be over the age of 13 and have a basic knowledge. :P
Member of SFOD-DELTA actually help take down Saddam, so the games they are in are related to Saddam. Well, Im through with this post, just wanted to say how some people use their power as a moderator incorrectly.

ATi - 2-13-2004 at 12:56 AM

That is a very good idea in theory - But how would we get the members of DFB to read it? Some new users have a hard enough time reading the simple forum rules as it is!
