GETTING PUNTED FROM BHD? READ THIS THEN.

BOVA - 11-6-2003 at 10:57 AM

It has nothing to do with temporary internet files. A clean computer and defragged system will run much faster than one that is not. But this has nothing to do with temporary internet files. This happens when a players ping reaches his or her max ping setting of 1500 which is the default setting in BHD. So when you are in a game and your ping goes over 1500, you will get punted. It also has nothing to do with the server you are in.
This setting is controlled by the online player and not the server he or she is in.
There are things that can cause your ping to go up or down. If you are running to much stuff in the backround while in game, the time of day. If the map has to many buildings to close together or a poorly built map and so on.
If a player runs a trainer it will lag a server and knock everyones ping up.
You need to open your players settings in notepad and change your max ping number to a higher number.
Open your bhd folder in notepad
now select the drop down box where it says text change it to show all files.
Now look for a file called this-dfv.cfg and open it in notepad.
Now scroll down to multiplayer and look for max ping- 1500
change the 1500 to 5000
After you do that save it as all files in the drop down box.
If you save it as a text file it will not work, you must save it as all files so it replaces it's self as the file it was.
If you done this right after you go play online you should not get punted and if you do it will not be as near as much as when that number was set to 1500.
I hope this helps.
This will work in most cases.
I have tested it my self.
I was in a server once and my max ping setting was at the default setting of 1500.
Of course I got punted.
So I came out of game opened notepad.
Changed max ping setting to 7000. Then I went back into the same server and did not get punted again.
To be sure I came out and changed it back to 1500 went back in and got punted. Came back out and changed back to 7000, and did not get punted. Are you getting the picture?
YOU have alot better chance of not getting punted if you raise your players max ping rate then if you do not.
:o:o

BOVA - 11-7-2003 at 07:21 AM

No friend I did not lie, and I take the information I share about games very seriously. You answered your own question. Since you are on 56k, good luck in any online gaming. I was on 56k for 2 yrs. It was 2 years of nightmares, after I got on cable the nightmares stopped.
Also try an attitude adjustment.:P

sorry

Seems to Work

lrsink - 11-7-2003 at 11:37 PM

I have a 56k and I think it worked fine. Only got punted once last night, instead of every time. I have a T1 at work and less punts there too. We owe you one Bova.

Irsink and crazy kiff

BOVA - 11-8-2003 at 06:35 AM

Hey guys,
I am glad I could help you Irsink, that's great man. I am glad it helped you. I try to help when I can.
Crazy kiff no problem dude, I know how annoying 56k can be. I played TDM on 56k in DF2 for 2 years. Man what a pain in the back side it was. But this was before I got cable and became a COOP fanatic lol.

Jonny Rubber - 11-9-2003 at 07:34 AM

Can't believe someone doesn't want broadband - are you MAD!!

I was suffering on 56k for too long, lots of punts and lag etc, broadband recently came to our area (sadly not cable) and Iv'e only had it for a week but i'd rather give up my right testicle than lose broadband it make multiplayer a dream come true.

Vªm¶ïr뺹 - 11-9-2003 at 08:19 AM

man broadband sucks, ive got 56k, i want cable but im not getting it anytime soon, but 56k helps, since i sometimes lag it makes me a [Censored] to hit lol.

Jonny Rubber - 11-9-2003 at 11:10 AM

Please don't think being harder to hit is an advantage, remember it's also harder for you to hit other people.
Anyway how can you possibly believe 56k is better than Broadband?
Sorry but I need facts..

Steptoe - 11-9-2003 at 04:56 PM

56 kers are harder to kill

STEPTOE HAS SPOKEN

BOVA - 11-10-2003 at 03:46 AM

STEPTOE HAS SPOKEN lol. Just kidding Steptoe.:D

S MC - 11-11-2003 at 02:02 AM

56K'ers with a M240...really hard to kill, hehe.
Set "ping"max to 5000? Not on my server, lol. I think my teammates would get a little annoyed if ppl with "pings" that high came in.
I've set mine to max 800. Good balance I think.

S MC

BOVA - 11-11-2003 at 04:22 AM

It does not do anything to the server. It just keeps a player from getting punted if his ping goes up for some other reason.
Like if there was to much stuff in a map or something. You know what kills me? When I try to help others and people like you who don't know their butt from a hole in the ground throw around rude comments like this.
What do you think you are einstien?
I can tell just by the rude comment that you made, do know what you are talking about.
Do you have anything constructive to offer or any intelligent information to offer that others may benefit from?:P

S MC - 11-11-2003 at 07:20 PM

Rude comment? Either I'm blind or you had too much coffee, mate.
High pings can ruin a game for other players.
Maps with "too much stuff" in it will affect ones machine more than the connection. The so called ping we see in the game is a combination of more things. One can have an ok ping in a game but still have a "laggy" experience. That would most likely be machinelag or perhaps there are too many players with too high pings causing the server to be "laggy".
Now if you will excuse me, I want my coffee now ;)

S MC

BOVA - 11-12-2003 at 06:46 AM

OK S MC, I do drink alot of coffee lol. If I didn't I would be a zombi mate. That is fair enough, you explained it better that time. I understand what you are talking about now and I can relate to it. But even I was getting punted from some games, not many but it was happening. I download at over 2 MB per second and upload at up to 158 kb per second. So I don't think it should have been happening to me. The measley default 1500 max ping novalogic allows players is not enough. Some of it just plain out related to the game BHD it's self. Anyway thank you for your feedback and good information.:D

Vox - 11-13-2003 at 11:46 AM

heh...sounds like Bova is on a ego trip....

Vox

BOVA - 11-14-2003 at 06:23 AM

Not at all friend, I am simply stating the facts behind the statements I have made.
Do you have any good information about BHD COOPS to add or about running a BHD server, or why BHD runs the way it does, or why people get punted from servers alot when they should not be.
Inquiring minds would like to hear from you. LMAO.:P

Vox - 11-14-2003 at 08:56 AM

i never said i had anything to say about any of those things. Its people like u (mod wannabees) that make me post messages like this.

Vox

BOVA - 11-14-2003 at 10:29 AM

That's just it Vox, you are not saying anything constructive. I do not make mods. I am not a mod wanna be. What I have been discussing is not a mod at all. Anybody can do it. I was trying to help people stop getting punted from the game BHD so much. I did not make you make the comment you made either. You did that all by your self. Now if you have nothing constructive to say or add. I would appreciate it if you would stop flaming me and making comments on this thread that mean nothing. All you are trying to do is make snod remarks because I am trying to help people.

DeadBolt - 11-14-2003 at 01:54 PM

Good tip BOVA. Personally, I still think the nova ping values are bogus. They simply jump around too much.

Steptoe, is this the good banter we were talking about in the rant and rave LOL.

Vox, some times it is just better to stay out of a topic if you don't have something of value to add other than a snide remark.

webfeet69 - 11-17-2003 at 08:49 AM

not all of us have dsl or cable available to us. I live out in the sticks so neither is an option. Trust me i call and whine every 3 monthe at the phone and cable co.
as for dish internet; $700 for equipment ,$75 a month for service and a 1/2 to one second lag time!! Enough said.
however i am currently looking at a t1 but to afford it i will probobly set up game servers and sell time on game servers for
squad tournements. So next time you [Censored] and say get cable remember, not all have fast internet avilable to us.

Bova,

Thanks for reply, but thats my problem how do i find and open bhd folder using notepad coz i'm not sure which and where bhd folder will be to open with notepad.

I have looked in c drive prog files but not sure where to go next...

thanks..

BOVA - 1-25-2004 at 07:59 AM

Delta Chris, open notepad. Then direct it to your bhd game folder. This should be the path.

C:\Program Files\NovaLogic\Delta Force Black Hawk Down
:P

deltachris - 1-26-2004 at 05:43 AM

Bova,

Thanks again m8

I see where to start, hopefully be ok now

BOVA Ping Times

M-BRO - 2-3-2004 at 06:46 AM

Thanks for your reply way back when. Can anyone adjust their ping times? How do I open or get to notepad? Thank you brother.:)

BOVA - 2-3-2004 at 07:47 AM

M BRO, to get to notepad just go to start then menu and it is listed in program menus. This does not adjust your ping times. It just raises how hi your max ping will go before you get punted. The default setting that novalogic gives us is 1500. But that is not enough for someone on dialup or if a server starts to lag a little. I hope this helps.:D

high pings

kadafi - 2-21-2004 at 08:41 PM

regarding high pings, question go out. I ran a ping trace and found a couple servers I went through ping pretty high along the way. I there any way to skip those particular servers or do I just have to grin and bear it

phoenixCDS - 2-21-2004 at 10:49 PM

i know you tested it bova but i cant realy see it doing anything for client/player as the setting you are changing is for the host's ping punt limit

but hey if it does work all the better for the 56k'rs

kadafi,i dont think you can change the route, just gotta roll with the flow

maxping change

Squelch - 4-10-2004 at 03:11 PM

Bova

Thanks mate I'm a 56ker and making the change you suggest seemed to help me.

Perhaps you can help with telling me which key to use during the game to minimise the game screen so i can access my desk top, might be silly question but i can't find the answer anywhere thx.:(:

Some coop Maps

Fuzzy(CA) - 4-10-2004 at 04:55 PM

Just thought to add something, some coop maps will punt late joiners to a map after something has blown up or been changed in the map from the starting one, if you get punted a bunch from a coop server in say 30 minute span, try connecting to a tdm or dm or something. It may only be that you need wait for the coop to change maps and chances are you can get in fine. This Rarely applies to a tdm map (though i am not that sure, i have never been kicked from tdm but i have seen alot of people kicked from my coop server and spent the time to find out why.) (Of course Bova, P1g and BBZ maps rarely have this problem early in the map or at all)

Alt+Tab should do the trick for you, mate.
I can use Alt+Esc too, but I'm on OS Win 98SE.

Couq - 5-12-2004 at 08:38 PM

Also press either: Alt+Esc, Ctrl+Esc or Alt+Tab . Sometimes it helps to press twice.

The window key between ctrl and alt at bottom left of the key board works pretty good. It opens the start menu along with the desktop.

Gunn - 7-12-2004 at 07:16 AM

I've tried changing the ping in notepad and it doesn't seem to work, i'm on cable and would really like to play this game. any help?

Gunn - 7-14-2004 at 05:39 PM

help?

HumanTarget - 7-14-2004 at 05:55 PM

what kind of servers are u trying to go to?
are u running any extra programs?
have u got the right patches?
are u getting any messages when u get punted? and if so what are they.

Gunn - 7-15-2004 at 06:39 AM

hat kind of servers are u trying to go to? any kind of server, doesn't matter, still get sysdumped, even on single player.
are u running any extra programs? nope
have u got the right patches? yea, and updates
are u getting any messages when u get punted? and if so what are they. only thing i'm getting is sysdump.txt ...

HumanTarget - 7-15-2004 at 09:50 AM

changing the ping setting isn't going to stop u getting sysdumps. it only helps ur system to not punt u from a game because of ur ping. do a search of the forums for sysdump and u should find some possible fixes for it.

BOVA - 6-27-2005 at 07:55 AM

I posted that because he was having connectivity issues also. Most people that have problems with bhd is because of the ping. If he or she can't recieve or transmit the data to and from a server fast enough that will cause system dumps also. But you know it all. Tell Steptoe I said hi while your at it. :P

TY

Kmilk - 8-31-2005 at 12:59 AM

Thanks for this Very useful info. I will try it my self and see what happens. Thanks again for finding this out. :) :D ;) :P

BOVA - 8-31-2005 at 07:25 AM

Yes those guys are right Squelch, pressing the start key or alt= tab usually works.
If you are getting sysdumps in single player missions.
I would say, if you have all the updates they may have not been installed correctly. It does not take much to get a game to sysdump. I think something in your game got corrupted.
There is a file in your game folder called REVUPDATE. Click on that, it will reverse your last update. After you do that then refresh your game folder and then close it.
Now try to play a singleplayer mission and see if it still sydumps you.
If it does not you will know that your last update was not installed correctly.
Reinstall the most recent updates and make sure it is done properly.
Defragging after a game update helps to.
There are alot of files in an update and it will almost surely frag your hard drive. Hope this helps you.:D

Save $$$ by getting DSL now at the price of Dialup

SF4-Midtown - 10-17-2005 at 06:41 AM

DSL now costs as much as 56K dialup, i expect all dialups user to get it, u cant pass up an offer like that, its unbelievable, i had to put up wit 56k for 7 years, i got punted atleast 7 times in each hour, now that i got dsl ive gotten punted 2 times with in 11 months, i only got punted cuz there was too many dialups in the servers. so get dsl today, it is soo much cheaper than when i gott dsl, I COULDNT WAIT ANOTHER DAY WITH DIALUP it was a living nightmare.

Problem 1,2,3

Kmilk - 11-24-2005 at 10:54 AM

OK. I tried the idea in this forum, but I have some comments. You do know that in order to do this, You must mess around with files that can damage your computer and these files are for hosting your own server. This files are HIDDIN for a reason. 1. So that you can not modify the files 2. So you can not cheat by Modifying the files 3. So you can not have SPECIAL FEATURES in the game. Besides, in order to see the file, you have to change your folder options so that you can see them. Unselecting this option can severly damage your computer if you try to modify system files. But Thank-You for the help! :D

BOVA - 11-25-2005 at 08:01 AM

Man I have heard it all now.
You are way out of your league.
Those files can be seen in the BHD folder
weather you select show hidden files or not.
The files are not computer system files.
They are BHD game related files only.
Meaning if you never installed BHD, those files would not be there to begin with.
Now lets back up a little.
What really happened was you tried the steps at the beginning of this thread.
You could not get the operation to work properly for you although many before you did.
Then because you were bitter about the fact that you did not do it correctly and the fact you do not know alot about computing. You then decided to try a come back and a week one at that to justify your failing in getting it to work.
Oh by the way the operation gives no player an unfair advantage over another player in any way shape or form.
It just keeps people from being punted when thier ping hits the max of 1500.
I also can tell that you hardly read any of the explanation of procedures in how to do it properly.
It is also the home computer users choice by default to allow hidden system files to show or not to show on thier system.
But like I said the BHD files are not computer system files.
The files are BHD related (ONLY).
Your rebuttle attempt is not valid.
Have a nice day.:D:P
