simply make sure under general info
make sure no game types are checked like TDM or Deathmatch, or Flagball. etc.
This applies to seeing the map in single player missions part of the your df game
You can also host a multiplayer game to see the map... Here is how...
If you "export mission file" you can be "in the Map" but you must
1. checkmark the game type you want to play in (like Deathmatch)
2.export the the mission" to the game directory.
3. STart your game for multiplayer game and select that game type to play
4. Start hosting and you are in the map.
When you make changes to the map you must use the ~quit command to leave the game
then restart the game after you have exported the new changed map. New maps that
are exported are not dynamically brought into play for you to see. You must start
and stop the game to see the changes.
you dont have to leave the game

while testing a map in multi player/single player mode any changes made can be seen using the resetgames command
1. press the "~" key
2. type RESETGAMES(only need type it one time after first time just hit the down arrow key and it will retype the line for you)
3. press enter
4. press spacebar(in single player mode only)
with some exceptions
in single player mode terrain overrides, terrains, sky settings will not change, new objects may not appear correctly, testing flags flagbays in CTF,
and the zone in koth
i use mostly single player mode to test maps (accept in the above exceptions). it is faster and u needn't be connected
also make sure you have the correct spawns in your map otherwise your spawn will be in the terrain center which may or maynot be a very long run to
your map area

1. I'd rather have my resources free for the med, so I always close the game off inbetween testing, it only takes a few seconds to start the game and
run the map.
2. You don't need to be online to serve a multiplayer game, just choose lan instead of nova.

yes you will start running low on resourses in 1/2-1 hr just quit and restart every 30 min or so however it is by far faster in single player mode
using the ~resetgames command while testing (it takes less time to do this than it took me to type this sentence) this is by far faster than any other
way i can make 4-5 changes and see them in the time it takes to quit and restart just once
i say try it before you knock it

This is just my opion, and preference! It's up to ypu how you wish to test!!
Regards
exactly just an opinion

however ive tested maps the way you perfer for around 2 years prior to testing in sp mode give it a try for a whole map you will notice a significant
reduction in the amount of time it takes to make and test a map
p.s. you can't test a map offline using the LAN if u have no LAN

hey guys! if I find in an uncompleted map something i better do change or set in, i exit the game (till it goes to the menu), push alt+tab, edit it,
push at+tab again + backspace - when DF comes up u see the loading screen for ur map and there it is :D !
Very fast if u still need to figure ot things in ur map. And set ur blue spawn close to the area u wanna look at - makes no sense to run a marathon to
your spots every time
perigrine falcon - 2-8-2004 at 08:07 PM
yes exactly almost goes without saying i just never thought to post it untill someone mentioned it in a simular thread in BHD ive always put my spawns
in close to what im testing with maybe the exception of my first 1-2 maps but i think i did it then but thats been 3.5-4 years ago

If you want to adjust a specific object, you can do so in the MED, export the .bin file, alt+tab into the game, press ~ and then type restart (in
single player mode). This way you don't have to restart the whole game if you're just working on one or two little details.

i just decided that ~ resetgames being faster than exiting and reloading is no longer an opinion but a fact

When your done testing the map, go to the map selection menu then hit the Windows key on your keyboard, then rebuild it then export it and play again.
Did that make sence?:D
